I've got Wanadoo which recently changed to Orange and there were a few teething troubles when it first switched over and the speed was uncapped but it's otherwise ok now.

Apart from this week I've been unable to send email from either of my Yahoo email accounts that I ave setup on POP3. They have been fine for literally years but are both refusing to send anything through Outlook Express. They receive fine in OE and both send fine if I log in at Yahoo using webmail, but just flat refuse to send anything.

Outgoing mail server has been ok until now as smtp.wanadoo.co.uk and I've also tried smtp.orange.co.uk with the outgoing mail server authenticated and without.

Any ideas?

Here's the error message:

An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'test', Account: '*********', Server: 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 Error: Message content rejected <0c1c9d2ee4ef2c0e63e3022e582dc9a2>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC69

Wanadoo/Orange make you use their own outgoing mail server rather than Yahoo's. Tiscali and BT do as well, as do most ISP's. It's an annoyance to be honest.

I use Yahoo on BT with the proper POP and SMTP servers, I also use Yahoo's SMTP for my Freeola mail, however other suppliers do restrict email forwarding by blocking other ISP's email servers addresses, you will just have to try different addresses until you find a new one that is not blocked.

iirc you can use the yahoo SMTP, or alternativly you can setup gmail to alow sending of email FROM other accounts (non gmail) via their SMTP server.

as mentioned, most isps limit all traffic on port 25 (smtp) to their own servers. (cuts down on malware-infected pcs with their own mail servers flooding the net with spam)

but a lot of mail providers allow you to use smtp on a different port so it doesn't conflict with your isp's settings eg i'm using

gmail port 465
btyahoo port 587

so i can still send using each invidual mail provider smtp server... :)

hence why I sujested gmails one
also I've only seen wannado do that.

Aha. Ports.

Looks like Wanadoo must have changed their port settings then, except being as it's now Orange finding the settings is next to impossible.

I noticed port 587 is Yahoo's default port and with the Yahoo outgoing server on port 587 it is now sending properly. Thanks for the help chaps.
