Problems setting up dual boot 11.10/Win7 (64bit) with UEFI bios

Hi

I have just installed the beta version of Ubuntu 11.10 on a new build (with UEFI bios).

With the install done GParted shows the following:
sda1 (unknown filesystem) size 977KiB with a flag bios_grub
sda2 ext4
unallocated (1.4TB)
sda3 swap

However when i try and install Win7 on the unallocated space it won't let me because the Partition Table is GPT (as it is also for sad1/2/3). I gather it needs to be MBR or something.

However i can't see any option in GParted to chage the unallocated space to MBR. Is there anyway to do this?

Or maybe i need to do a compete reinstall and set everything to MBR - i'm assuming here that GParted will give me this option if i start from scratch??

Thanks

You might find it works much easier if you install Win7 to a partition first and then have Ubuntu install itself beside it after. That's how I've done it in the past when I used to dual-boot 7 and Ubuntu.

thanks

am gonna try and delete all partitions and set it back from GPT to MBR (not that i know what this means or how to do it)

but i have a feeling that with this new UEFI bios that it is impossible at the moment

basically get windows installed as you need it

then once that is done using a program like partition magic or windows disk management if it does it
create a new partition

then install linux on to that

imo you'll need to install grub (grand unified bootloader) id suggest if you can have two drives
one for windows one for linux it just keeps matters simple.

but have you actually tried that on a win7 install on a UEFI bios PC - only the few posts i have seen about this talk about Ubuntu bugs and big problems
