Problems when hosting games on Xbox Live

Morning all,

I have just, on a short term basis, moved into a new build flat and have taken over a TalkTalk LLU ADSL (can't change ISP) connection which I have linked up to a Sky / Netgear DG834GT router with the latest DGteam firmware with default settings. The connection speed I get is about 5mb down and 0.8mb up.

My problem lies with Xbox Live and me hosting games in Call of Duty: Black Ops. I can join other peoples games fine and the connection is fine but if the game selects me to host the game then it goes to pieces. There is constant pauses in the gameplay due to connection interuptions and then when we are actually playing, it's all jittery and laggy and then will eventually crash back to the lobby.

Any solution to this? Thank you.

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt hosting games require a better upload speed? if someone else is using your connection, along with your not so great upload it might be enough to cause issues?

Try running www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk to see what your actual download/upload throughput is. Also look out for high ping and ping spikes as this is what will determine on the game you are hosting, if you have poor ping times then its going to effect other people.

Thanks for the reply.

I hosted games fine on my 0.6mb up VM cable connection so have more upload now than I did then. My NAT / Party privacy are both open as well.

I'l check that tonight, at work at the moment.

Pings can't be that much of a problem though as I connect to other peoples games fine and have 4/4 connection bars.

Thats when you are joining someone else's game though, never played black ops, is there anyway to check your ping's when your hosting the game?

On one of the main menu screens, in the bottom right hand corner, I can't remember which screen but it should tell you if your NAT type is open..

I bet its probably closed, may need to check your port forwards...
No idea if this will help though :P
