Hey there,

Hope some of you guys can help.

In our house we have a 4 port ADSL router, this goes upstairs by ethernet to a 16 port switch which sends 2 ethernet points to each of the 6 bedrooms and 1 to the lounge. We have an Xbox in the lounge which uses this connection.

I wanted to get my Wii online, so used a Linksys 4 port Wireless Router (NOT an ADSL one). I plugged this into the port in the Lounge (using port 1), plugged the xbox into that (using port 2) I assigned it a different IP to the main router, and set up security for the wireless. The Xbox can access the network, but neither it nor the Wii can access the internet.

Is this a problem with having 2 router's? Do I need to make the 2nd router act as a 4 port wireless switch and not a router? How do I do this? I can't seem to see anything in the options.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers! :)

You should be able to use the 2nd router simply as an access point and switch with no problems. Give the 2nd router an IP address on the same network, which I assume you've already done. Disable the DHCP server on it, and ignore the WAN port on it. Plug one of the LAN ports into your existing network then it should simply function as a switch and wireless AP.

Cheers, I already had it plugged in correctly - but had not turned off the DHCP server.

My Wii is now updating :D Should be done in an hour or two, maybe.

Thanks Again! :)
