Problems with 8800 GTX 768 with Cod4?

HI Guys,

I've recently purchased cod4 and when i try and play multiplayer i have crashes fairly regularly, usually can be solved with a ctrl+alt+del then taskmanager 'switch to' back to the game, however sometimes i get a full system hang.

I've been trawling the web and have come across people blaming the realtek drivers on the Asus board (i have p5w dh deluxe), i have updated these and changed some setting as per advice but no solution?

Has anyone else experienced this issue or similar? I'm thinking i may just get an x-fi card and disable the realtek stuff?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hmmm I have an 8800 gtx with an Asus m/b with realtek drivers installed and don't have any problems with CoD4 crashing at all. Other than driver problems (asume you are running the latest WHQL nvidia drivers) the only other thing I can think of is PSU - maybe the slightly increased power load going to this card from an 8800 gts has tipped your system close to the edge so to speak so it's crashing when the system is running full whack.
As for the xfi I've had more problems with running creative labs cards and drivers in my system than just using onboard sound so I can't really recommend going that route for increased stability.

i doubt it being your graphics card as i only have a 7900gtx and can run COD4 without any problems. your card should make mince meat of COD4
it could be the onboard sound i have had a few games crash on me with onboard sound before so i went back to my Xf-i extreme music and only had issues where my card is just not got the power to run at 1650 x 1080

yes i'm aware its not the card, i've also tried dropping to 1280x1024 with low settings just to be sure and this didnt help. (usually run 1680x1050 with full everything.

My drivers are up to date for everything but no joy. The power supply is 1750w seasonic so i'm pretty sure its not that. I've also tried a 320 gts 8800 which has only 1 pci connector, this suffered the same probs.

In all cases vista (64 bit) always gives me a message to say that the display driver had stopped working and recovered?
