Problems with 8GB (4x2GB) of the OCZ ELV stuff

Well I bought two packs of the 4GB OCZ low voltage stuff that was on offer on Friday but have just stuck it in my machine and it blue-screened almost as soon as it hit the desktop with a memory error.

The memory was detected by my Asus P8P67 Pro at 1333MHz with 9-9-9-20 timings. I tried relaxing this a bit to 9-9-9-24 but same result.

Popped two of the DIMMs out and it seems fine so far.

Now whilst it's possible that the sticks I've taken out were faulty, and I will do a full memtest with each set in when I get a chance, I think it's far more likely that it's just unstable with 4x2GB sticks in.

What should I try to rectify this instability? Relaxing timings even more? Upping voltage?

Anyone else here running 8GB of this memory on a P8P67 or any other P67 mobo?

CPU? I've heard of people having to up their vcore and CPU-NB voltage on the Phenom II quads before to get 4 dimms stable over 2.

There have been about 3 horror stories. 99% of people have thought, "Ooh I know, I'll looking up the overclocking guidelines before thrashing it", and have had no issues at all.

Your mobo and Sandy should be fine running 4x2GB. I suggest you test all 4 sticks individually, or in 4GB pairs to determine whether the ram is okay. If both sets test fine then you will probably need to up the northbridge/ICH volts a little to assist the memory controller.

Incase you have overclocked your CPU, turn it back to stock whilst testing the ram to eliminate posible OC issues.

My bet is a dodgy stick of ram. I have just RMA'd one stick out of six due to BSOD's and massive ammounts of memtest errors.

CPU is at stock at present as it's plenty fast enough for me :)

I'll test the two pairs individually. When you say to up the northbridge/ICH volts, do you just mean the memory voltage or something else?

Please ignore my comment regarding Northbridge. I forgot that Sandy Bridge uses and integrated memory controller.

At stock settings, all 4 memory modules should work fine. If they do not, you most likely have a faulty ram stick.

I have 4x2 here (2xXMS3, 2xOCZ camo stuff) with a 4.6GHz overclock. I just dumped the extra two sticks in, SPD used the timings from the XMS3 and it's been absolutely fine since.
