For any of you car experts. My girlfriends mum called yesterday ago saying that the turbo in her 04 Clio had gone . She dropped it off to me to take it into the garage to get fixed. However when I turned on the car it seemed to have full power and he turbo was back on but whistelling more then a second world war American truck. This morning again it is sriously lacing in power and seriously struggles to get to 40.
Now unfortunately I know very little about cars engines, but my general understanding is that when the turbo has gone to go it is quite a big job to do and so she's probably better off getting rid. Or are there any known and easily fixable problems with the model etc

Thanks for any help

replacing a turbo on a clio can be a easy job the turbos new can be had for £150 if that is the problem....
just to note it is quite common for the turbos on renaults to fail...it's to do with the variable vains on the turbo jamming in one setting...that can on occasion be freed by cleaning them...so no cost just a bit of time to dis asemble....

Seems it's a job to save till janurary. I think she has her mind on getting a golf or an a3 replacement now

I would check all the boost pipes for a leak first if it is the turbo its not that difficult to change and as already said its pretty cheap to replace or get it rebuilt. I would get it fixed before trying to sell it.

It doesn't turn itself on and off ;)

From the sounds of it a boost pipe has split, the turbine spinning makes that awesome noise you think is a tank. If the turbo had gone you'd be getting loads of smoke from a knackered seal or the engine would be down on power IMO.

Take it to a garage and ask them to take a look!
