Gods County(Allegedly)
Decided to move to 6 core and a whole new system.
Board as listed + 5820K+16gb 2666 ram.
Also 2 x 290 + 500gb Sammy ssd + 1000w SuperFlower psu
Already had a Gigabyte Aivia keyboard usb x 2 connectors and Razer Imperator usb mouse.

In longer term the cpu and the gpu's will be watercooled but for now thought best idea was to get things up and running so I built based on one gpu and no overclocking.

Problems from minute one with the keyboard - the usb ports that OI plugged the 2 connectors into did appear to see the thing - pretty lights etc BUT on final start up the lights would not come on - bit of a power shortage.
Tried a few start ups and it finally saw the light and all looked good excepting that upon one occasion , without any warning or sound the power to both mouse and keyboard dissapeared and the screen lost its signal - strange - only cure was to re-boot after which all appeared fine and no record of faults in windows reliability recoird (am running windows7 64bit ultimate)

As it appeared that after a bit of a shaky start all was working I ran both gpu's individually - no problems with either card:) so decided to give crossfire a go - after a few abortive attempts to install - the keyboard usb's kept failing again - I tried different usb pots and finally it worked i.e. I had both cards installed and crossfire was per Catalyst working. BUT now had the same failure i.e. mouse and keyboard power gone ; no lights and screen signal gone.
When tried to re-boot no power or signal - scrren remains off and no power to keyboard or mouse. Tried unplugging/re-bbot etc - no joy.
Did get it to re-boot but found that catalyst now did not show at all the crossfire symbol i.e. unavailable

Decided to go back to one card - ran fine although a few days in it did the switch off screen signal and keyboard & mouse but carried on running (no error report either).

Re-built with 2 cards and tried to boot - now the keyboard and mouse have no power and the screen never received a signal

Have arranged am RMA with ocuk but would appreciate thoughts - have I missed something?

Earlier today I re-set the board with its default settings and cleaned and re-installed AMD drivers - will have an attempt later tonight/tomorrow to get things working but believe my board may be flawed.
n.b Am runnuing most recent (nov) bios

Any help or advice as to what is going on gratefully received :)

I would update the bios to the latest version if you haven't already done it. Sometimes this can fix many problems including comaptibility ones. Download the latest bios from here and put it on a usb stick (fat 32). Reboot and go into the bios and use EZ-Flash to update. I see the last couple of releases have been for a lot of different fixes so it might solve your problems.

I have had a few USB issues and found that plugging the mouse/keyboard into the USB 2 ports instead of the USB 3 ports fixes most of them. On the ASUS motherboard the port with the green outline and the one to the right is USB 2.

Am on Bios 1103 (updated before installing windows) ; which I believe is the latest.

Will try with USB 2 - rather than 3 - for keyboard and mouse (although keyboard needs 0ne usb3 to function correctly.) tomorrow.

Have read about USB issues on the Deluxe but not for the S - does however appear that the S suffers as well :(

As a matter of interest I , today, installed Asus suite and EZ update - the latter has suddenly announced that an important BIOS update is ready 'version 1.0.0.0' (7916kb) - any ideas as to what this is? and should I download/install via windows?

I have had the same problem. Switching to USB 2.0 could help but not in the long run.
I solved it by entering the BIOS, in the USB configuration on Advanced tab, switch the xHCI to Smart auto.

I have no idea what EZ-Update is on about. As far as I can see from the downloads on Asus website the latest bios is the one you have. I really would not use Asus windows bios flash tool anyway as I have seen many boards bricked by doing it that way.

My keyboard uses USB 3 also but I use USB 2 for the mouse or it goes wrong. I uninstalled the EZFlash part of the AI Suite as it kept on about the 1.0.0.0 BIOS and I use a USB drive to update from inside the BOIS.

Thanks for the advise ref EZ-Update - I installed it in the forlorn hope that it might assist with the issues I was having - should have known that it would more likely cause issues rather than curing.
Will un-install later.
Noted mouse and usb positioning and will watch tomorrow.

Why do Asus expect us to do their beta testing for them and , given the board was out in September why have all these issues not been resolved ?- the board(s) are hardly cheap!!

Am very appreciative for the assistance but have decided to give it a rest until tomorrow. Have not got one but will watch the Hangover (crude but occasionally funny imo).

Any additional problem solving ideas welcome - will have a thorough read tomorrow before starting :)

Thanks again.

Found that as FredFlint the bios set itself as Smart auto by default.

Tried moving to usb 2 for mouse and (in part - it takes 2 connectors and one is usb 3) keyboard.

Having installed second card and booted up to begin with it did seem to improve (keyboard off and no screen) but all of a sudden keyboard came on and screen lit up - crossfire is enabled. Rang a quick test of Heaven - passed.

Fell over gain a bit later and then had a screen freeze - recovered from both BUT as I was typing this it fell over again - no picture to screen , keyboard and mouse lights go out and board code goes from AA to OO (any ideas?)

Do note that when starting the red light comes on next to vga but then goes out again.

My board 'fubarred' ?

Strange - despite re-boot and change ram speed to its actual speed of 2666 , when it had re-started I found that this page was still there, I was still logged in and the part written post remained

Still not stable

When running at 2666 had a couple of occasions when the system stopped but did not re-start i.e. still on but no signal to monitor and keyboard and mouse still no lights (not working as far as can tell.)

Decided that it might be the ram so dropped back to 2133 (allegedly it is 2666) i.e. let board set it. and it appeared to settle.

Just now having being playing a card game (no heavy graphics etc it suddenly switched itself and re-booted!

At least this last time it did not simply keep running - it re-booted BUT anyone got any ideas as to what is going on and what is the solution.??

Should I be rma 'ing? and if so both board and ram (the ram passed windows memn test without fault yesterday)

RMA'd it.:(

Been acknowledged by Ocuk and advised it has been sent back to Asus for repair/replacement.
Informed:-

'Please be aware it can take up to 28 working days to receive a repair / replacement from the manufacturer':(

We shall see , hopefully be a somewhat shorter period:) (One thing I've learnt with this - Build it immediately!! -delay for 2 months or more waiting for all the bits etc is not a good idea!)

sad to hear. You gonna buy another board while waiting?

At £200 a go - No
Most expensive board I've ever bought. Assumed it would be better but given new chipset , should have known that there might be a glitch or two. :(

yeah every new platform has many fault. Mainstream platform got fixed very fast as many people use it and generally it is less complicated to solve. Enthusiastic platform, on the other hand, is more complicated to solve and less people use it so many hidden bugs. :(

After RMA and purchase of a MSI Gaming 7 I received a new board in early Feb.

Have just installed it today and am up and running :)

Fingers crossed that it continues to be stable particularly when i get round to crossfire' ing my 290's.

I do like the MSI- it was stable from the start but , provided it stays stable, I prefer the Asus - easier to clock, gap between the 2 gpu's is much better (the msi close positioning caused the top card to overheat very quickly:( ) and the black and white theme is , for me, better than the msi red and black.

Just hope that it does not become 'flaky'

Should have known that it would not be without issue :(

Switched on last night to find that it would not boot - basically the 'red' light advising ram problem was on.
Re-started 3/4 times before it booted into bios with the 'usual' your overclock has failed message.
The ram has been running at 2666 without issue with the msi board so decided to try to boot with the ram running at 2666 (strangely the bios in one half said this was the speed it was running at whereas in the other half it said 2133:confused:) but , in case I was pushing too hard with 1.09v on the cpu (ram is running at the recommended 1.2v), I dropped the clock from 4.1 to 4.0
Re-started - no probs:)
Have updated the bios to the most recent and have ,this morning, put the overclock back to 4.125 (125x33).
Am hopeful that, more than anything, the problem was a bios issue or because I was not putting enough volts thru the cpu - have updated the bios and have increased the volts to 1.1 from 1.0975 (approx.) so am hopeful that we have stability.:)
If I am missing something (would not be the first time:confused:) please let me know :D
n.b. If it does remain stable I will at weekend be setting up crossfire; this caused a few issues with the old borked board so here is hoping that it will go smoothly :)
