Hi all.

I had a mot done last week and also the fork seals done at the same time.

Today I checked the bike over just to give a clean up and the left fork seal leaking.
But the worst thing the bike has this bad knocking when you push down on the handle bars.

It looks like the front disks are moving but I was told by my friend that they should not of had to do anything to the disks in order to do the fork seals?

I am sure the knocking would be an mot fail so if it was there before ( it was not) then they would have charged me to get that fixed like they did with a broken light switch.

They are coming to pick the bike up tomorrow but I got a bad feeling they have broken something and will try wiggle out of fixing it :(

Well if the discs securely bolted to the wheel then they won't be moving about, as for the knocking when you push down on the bars, does it knock when you push down or when the forks return back to full extension?.

When I push down it happens.

On the disk brakes this is the part that's moving and I don't know if it's normal.

My m8 said that having low oil in the forks can also make the same effect so could be that maybe ?

Yes they are supposed to move, that's why they are called "floating" disks.
I would suggest the head races have not been done up correctly and that's what the knocking is*

*slack in the bearings.

they shouldn't move imo,not unless you wiggle them with fair amount of force with your thumb n fingers(side to side) (no movement back and forth/rotation)

my zx10r discs went like that they rattled like a tin can,had to change them,a tiny bit of movement is ok but they shouldn't rattle

and yes too low fork oil will cause it to knock,im guessing you'll hear the fork spring compress more with less oil

tell them the fork is leaking and theres now a loud knocking sound, and tell them your not paying any extra

The shop taking the bike tomorrow and fixing the problems without me paying any extra they said.

If they try it on I will stand my ground as I know it was fine other then the seals before it went to the shop :(

I will update when they sorted it I hope lol :D

The buttons/rivets do cause some movement when they have worn, and this will give a clunk if you move the bike back and forwards with the front brake on. Unless they are really bad it doesn't affect braking and it's unlikely to be an MOT failure; my dads SV had a good couple of mm of movement and the MOT tester didn't even mention it.

Is the knocking there only if you apply the brakes and push down? is the knocking there if you push down with the brakes off, also try rolling the bike and apply the brakes do you still hear the knocking?

I think the knocking when brakes on or off.

When the driver from the shop picked up the bike today he said that when they did the fork seals they forgot to mention to me that it seem like someone damaged the forks before and that is why the seal could leak again.

Funny they tell me this today and not when the seals was done and it passed MOT.
I got a feeling I am done over :(

Yeah I will next time I only got stuck with because they are close and I needed the bike transported for me.

Will never use them again even if it means paying more to go else where.

The bike coming back today with a new seal and the knocking noise I was told is my free floating brakes so that is good.

Got a guy looking at the bike tomorrow I just want to gone now so I can do my full test and get on my XJ 600 :D

And to top it off my gun boot going on my xj was held back by customs for days for no reason UPS told me :(
Only when I called them UPS released it for me.
