can anybody please tell me what is wrong with my CAD packages or my graphics card?

basically, the problem is that it doesnt run smoothly at all. im not sure what the correct terminology for this problem is, but i can describe what is happening. When draing lines, zooming in and out and literally most tools, the whole screen will sort of freeze and leave a trail of replicated images. Kind of like when windows xp freezes and you get 100s of windows on screen.

For example when i draw a line, at the first click it picks the point where the line starts, and then it will then stretch or drag the line to whichever point you want to pick next. While dragging it leaves behind a trail of lines and cursors that dont disappear until i do something like use the zoom window.

I am running windows vista with a dual core 4400, 7800GTX EE graphics card, 2GB RAM.

thanks in advance for your help

What program are you using? I would have initially said that your pc is slow but looking at the specs it evidently is not.

Normally massive slow down is due to a huge drawing size. is this a fresh drawing your doing or not ??

im using rhino 3d v3 and Solid edge v17. these programs are where the problems lie.

Programs like photoshop and illustrator cs2 run very fast taking under 5 secs to load up fully so its definitely nothing to do with my specs.

I only use AutoCAD and 3ds Max so i cant comment on the programs that you are using really.

Although the above are very labor intensive and I don't have any problems and I have considerably lower specs so the only reason i can come up with is the compatibility of the said programs with vista.

Sorry i cant help any more.
