Problems with cooling a delidded 8700k

Hi guys I have today installed a delidded 8700k (bought from overclockers) and I am seeing some high temps. I have a ek kit p240 which is also new and installed today.

My temps are really high with 45c just idling. Put on Ghost recon wildlands to test the temps and they were jumping in their 90's. I was hoping to overclock this cpu til 4.9ghz as advertised but obviously with these temps I can't. I used Thermal Grizzly, a pea sized amount. I am at a loss as to what the problem could be.

Also can someone please tell me if I have the fans below as push or pull? Sounds daft But i wasn't quite sure and wanted it set up as pull.

I might have to try that. Im not seeing a lot of action from the pump. Theres no big swirl at the top, i can feel it vibrating a little but looking at the tiny gap at the top I might have a problem with the pump? This has depressed me big time

I am going to ditch the water cooling, I am convinced there is a problem with the pump. I have ordered the Corsair H105 AIO which I hope will do the job properly. Fed up of filling and draining loops all the time, the paranoia I might get a drop of coolant on the mobo is killing me lol. If problem persists afterwards I am gonna assume it's a dodgy cpu, however I think its the Pump not pushing the coolant round properly. Looking in the water block I can't see any movement of the water inside either.

I wish I had room for a 360 radiator. I'm hoping the 240 that comes with the H105 will be sufficient

Assuming the radiator is behind the fans then they are pulling the air.

Wow my brother swore to me that they were pushing air through, I have since switched them over as I wanted pull. Will have to remember that when my AIO comes.

Is the pump plugged in? I made that mistake on my old H80i - forgot to plug the pump in post upgrade!

Yes mate it is. I even tried powering it via another psu I had spare. It does seem to push the coolant round, but not very much by the looks of it. My old magicool DCP450 seemed stronger

It's not an AIO mate it's the EK-XRES 140 Revo D5 that come with the kit. It's either the pump or the CPU itself. I'm pretty sure I seated the cpu correctly, applied a pea sized amount of thermal Grizzly. If the problem persists after I install the H150 then it has to be be a dodgy chip.

Mate that pump going with a dual/triple rad(not sure what you have) is superior in every way to any AIO! there must be something wrong with the way you have mounted the block or are removing heat from the case. what block are you using, have you made sure the block is making correct contact and have you removed the plastic film from the bottom of the block, have you made sure the pump is going into the inlet hole and not the out let and lastly are you pulling air through your rad and out of your case so not to dump all the heat into your case(which was my problem)? My guess is there is something wrong with the mounting of the block because of the high idle. I don’t think there is a problem with the pump because if it wasn’t working you would hit shutdown temperature rarther quicky.

Well that's one reason I bought the EK kit to start with. However after setting it all up, filling the loop, getting rid if air bubbles, then draining, changing the tubing and doing it all over again I'm fed up with messing about with it. I liked the xspc uv tubing and thought it might have been a problem with that originally so I changed it with the tubing EK provided and still same problem.

I was using the EK Supremacy evo which was provided. Pulled the stickers and plastic film of. I realise my cooling may not be as good but the hassle has annoyed me. Fitting a drain would have helped but my graphic card or case was in the way. So I have stripped all the EK stuff out and cleaned my CPU ready for the H150. As long as it cools it well enough for me to overclock to 4.9Ghz then I'll be happy

I bought a 360 aoi from overclockers uk for my 8700. After 2 hours running any game it hits 65c running at 5.1. The only time it has gone over 70 is when assassins creed had crap coding and used all the cores at 95% + .Got 3 fans pushing on the rad and it's had no problems at all.

Is your 8700k delidded? I've got a 240 AIO coming so it's smaller than yours. Be interesting to see what temps I get

Hey this may seem a dumb question but I want to be sure. When my H105 comes tomorrow, I have to mount the fans at the top of the case above radiator, ideally I would have liked a push/pull config but I don't have room underneath the radiator. I will want the fans at top blowing up don't I, in pull config? Got 2 fans at front sucking in air and one at back exhausting air.

Also I have got 2 EK Card at fans, do you think they will be better than corsair's sp120 fans?

Hi,

The EK Vardar will be much better then the stock Corsair, in my opinion. As for Push versus Pull, I have Push.

Ideally I'd like push but due to space I can't. I am looking at buying some Noctua NF fans and they are thinner than normal fans. If I can get them to fit I can go push/pull but that's a big if

Well my corsair H105 arrived today and finally got everything up and running. Overcooked to 4.9Ghz. Done a couple hours on prime95 temps never went higher than 70c. I did stick avx offset to 3 which I think I'll change to 1. Then I'll do some proper testing on Prime95 and Realbench. Very happy. Only downside is I couldn't get those slim Noctua fans to fit underneath so I have it as just pull so far

Those are ok for temps - better than mine. I hit just in the 80's with my 4.9 1.29v - she not be stable with any less.

If your not happy with temps mate Delid it. I have no regrets at all. I'm tempted to go for 5Ghz but I don't want to push it. I'm happy with what I got I used 1.35volts as that what was suggested on the forums, think I should lower it?

Edit: I pushed overclock to 5GHz with same voltage. Temps went to 76c on 1 core on 1 hours run on Prime95. Will give it a proper run tomorrow. Ran Cinebench and Realbench with no problems
