Well what a mess this is.

I got a new laptop last week and the wireless was truly awful with the stock firmware on the Dlink DIR-615. Ethernet was fantastic and newsgroups would max my 50Mbps connection on Virgin Media.

So I installed DDW-RT Firmware. Wireless is excellent and now Ethernet is gash.

On newsgroups I barely get over 1900Kbs if I am lucky. I have changed ports and gone onto SSL to see if that improves it but nothing. Has anyone any experience with DDW-RT, DIR-615 and Virgin Media. ??

If it's just affecting wired check the ports are auto negotiating properly, duplex mismatch can sometimes cause big speed drops.

Another check would be to try transferring a large file across the LAN from wired to wired and from wired to wireless. Just to make sure it's a problem on the Wired LAN side.
