Problems with DS3 overclock

Baically i have done a lot of reasearch on overclocking. I gave my first overclock ago earlier today but with problems. First here are the componets im using:

Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 mobo

C2D E6400

Antec Freezer 7 Pro

Antec nine hundred gaming case.

All off these components i chose for overclocking. I started off by updating my BIOS to the latest stable BIOS. Now i have gone into the BIOS to start the overclock. At first i have enabled CPU host clock control and then set a mhz freqency of a very small increase to 280. I then stumped the PCI-Freq to 100 as not o be effected by overclock. lastly i set the memory multiplyer to 2.5 just to ensure that memory speeds do not interfier with overclock. At this point i have not adjusted the CPU voltage. once doing this i save the settings and try to boot which is unsucseful and resets the BIOS. I did the same with a clock rate of 270 and this is saved.

I cannot work out why i may be having this problem. Help would be greatly appreciated.
 
I have not touched memory voltages to be honest. So they will be set as what every is default. What would i need to change them to and should this matter as at the moment i am underclocking the ram.
 
The gigabyte boards are set to give 1.8v to the ram which is generally below the rams rated voltage. Most e6400 do around 2.9-3.1 on stock volts so that should be fine.
 
What speed/type is your memory rated at, pc6400 (400mhz), 8500 (553mhz), etc? Are you running with 2 x 1gb, 2 x 2gb, 4 x 1gb, etc? Have you disabled "support usb legacy device" in the bios? Therews laos a shedload of stuff to disable in the bios too such as as speedstep (cie), etc.
I'm surprised you're running with a memory multi of 2.5, unless you're using 8500 speed ram, most ppl use 1:1 or x2, but as I said, depends what the rated speed of your memeory is.
Also post back with your full system specs, don't half help:)
 
I am running 2 times 1GB sticks or ram. They are DDR2-800 800mhz speed. No i have not disabled support usb legacy device. From what i have heard that should make no difference to the overclock and i plan on leaving speedstep enableded but if u think that should effect it i could disable it.
 
What make is your RAM, as the voltage needed for it can range from 1.8 to 2.2v. For the time being i would also disable Speedstep until you have got yourself a stable overclock as well.
 
I managed to get my E6400 up to 3.15GHz stable on core volts with a DS3 mobo. With the FSB Overvoltage +0.1, MCH+2, and my RAM which is OCZ stuff to +0.3 as it needs 2.1V.

Only issue i had was temps, i have an AC pro 7 and it's at stock and runs 38C idle.
