Problems with exclusive application & GPU in BOINC

So I installed BOINC for the POGS challenge and have now started CPU crunching for a couple of other projects including POEM which has downloaded some GPU units. Now most of the time I'm folding with my GPU but occasionally such as tonight my folding WU is due to finish when I'm at work so the GPU will be sitting idle for hours, so it seemed a good time to set up BOINC to GPU crunch when folding isn't taking place.

Clearly a simple exclusive application jobby ought to work, or so I thought.

I've added FahCore_17.exe which is the WU FAH is doing and this is correctly picked up as if I change my CPU settings to 'Run based on preferences' it will pause it.
Unfortunately on changing the GPU settings to 'Run based on preferences' it will not pause the GPU unit while FahCore_17 is running.
To confuse matters further, it will not run while GPU is suspended, and it will not run while CPU is suspended. !

So for it to run, CPU has to be allowed, and GPU has to not be suspended (either use GPU always or use GPU based on preferences).

The WU in question is described as using 1CPU and 1ATI GPU.

Does anyone know of any workarounds, that sort of thing? Ideally I want to CPU crunch all the time, and do the combined CPU/GPU unit only when the GPU is not folding. Only thing I can think of so far is a seperate BOINC instance with its own settings for CPU pausing but then I'd still get GPU WUs to the other BOINC and have to abort them.

But I don't want to turn off GPU WUs, I want it to recognise when Folding is occurring so it can suspend GPU processing, and when folding is not occurring (not infrequently since my internet is not 24/7) I want it to start GPU processing :)

Thanks, I've got a spare phone so could use that if I went down that route though :)
Yeah if I could get a line that would be vastly preferable. I'm not keen on shelling out for a mobile broadband solution that realistically is going to offer me nothing over my phone internet though.
What with Three moving us all off the One Plan I may have to put this distributed computing lark to bed next month anyway, depending on how much internet it uses - 4GB tethered data for a month doesn't sound like it'll go far.
