I have just setup my first proper linux box running Ubuntu 10.10 with XBMC installed on top for use as a HTPC. I have an external WD 2Tb hard drive connected which is the source of all my files for XBMC, This drive is formatted in HFS file system for OSX (it came from my MBP running Plex).

Problem is that a lot of the folders on the drive are locked down and I cant access them, when right clicking properties > permissions it says cannot read?

I have tried logging in as a root user and changing the permissions but no difference. Is there anyway to sort this without having to reformat the drive in a new file system. That would be a nightmare as I have no where to stick 2Tb of data right now.

I just fixed it by taking the drive back to the mac and using a tool called BatchMod to fix all the permissions on the drive. Worked a treat :)
