try re-running the configuration and changing the answer for "use IE connection" to the opposite of what it is now - that sometimes works

otherwise I know there was a very similar post on the folding forums a while back that I'd have to go searching for - someone else may remember the details

thanks i alread tried all the IE settings it has to be set 'no' for it to work at all even without service, this is weird BOINC never had any trouble as a service! anyway im thread hunting like you said!

nah not having much luck checked the folding wiki and the message boards cant seem to find anything! if it helps im running behind a proxy server but using ms firewall client so it should act as a standard internet connection, at least it does when not running as a service!

just thought of what it could be, if the services sets itself up by default to run as the admin account on my system then it will not be able to access the internet because it will not have the correct credentials to get through the proxy, so changed the service settings to use my user and now it should work hopefully!

sounds pretty much what was in the post I've seen - though I don't have a clue where you actually select that :p
i'll have a quick look to confirm

edit: ahh I see where you can set it - I'm 99% sure that's how it was solved

ok just tried it definatly works if you go to the service in services.msc right click and go to properties then to the log on tab
then enter your username using .\
then your password then your away. wahayy!

isn't it a lot more satisfying when you solve problems yourself? :p :D

hehe well I'm glad you got it sorted quickly and it at least makes some sense :)
i'll have to brush up on my foldy-help if we're getting a whole horde of fresh interest :D

now i just have to decide whether its worth using my hyperthreading! big argument here i believe but it says on the folding site not to but im just interrested in how im gonna get the most WUs done in the least time!

if you got two very demanding WUs at the same time (such as the currently not available QMD work) then you could actually see a drop in production as well as seeing the effects on your system performance
however as QMDs aren't available at the moment and probably won't be for some time that's probably neither here nor there at the moment

the main reason for advising against HT is that although you can work on two WUs at the same time it does add unwanted delays to how quick that one WU is returned, since new WUs are generated from the old ones it's far better for the science to have one WU back quickly than having 2 WUs back later

at best you'll get about a 30% increase in output (points per day or week) and possibly a lot less if the work is fairly demanding - probably best to try a few without and then try a few with and see what difference it makes and then decide :)

...starting with running two simultaneously. :)
well i think that answers which one Billy finds works best anyway :) :D

i think it really depends on what else the system is doing - as Billy has a lot of dedicated machines HT probably gives a pretty worthwhile bonus and the delay on completed WUs is minimal
