problems with hanns g 19 widscreen and dvi

i have a new 19 inch hannsg and a dvi cable , it will let me go to 1440 x 900 on a vga cable screen looks great , but once i install dvi cable , screen is blurry text wise and it will only let me go to 1280 x 1200
i am on vista rc2 and have a 6800gt

not sure but it was advertised as a single link dvi
do i need to get a dual link dvi cable for it to work right , they are 3 times the price of the single link?
