Problems with IE

Hey all,

There seems to be some IE problem with my Mum's PC - apparently it started a little while back, where the Home Page loads fine, but then when you try to go to any other page through typing in the address bar - like google - it gets to the point where the page would load, and then IE just completely closes. Apparently it stopped doing this, but since I came home it's started doing it again.

I've run AdAware scans, I've run haxfix, I've run Kaspersky, I've uninstalled the toolbars she was using, I've tried reinstalling IE, and I've upgraded IE6 (which she was using) to IE7.

AdAware found stuff. Kaspersky founds stuff. It sorted out all the junk it found but still we're getting the problem.

I have no idea what's going now, and would be grateful for any help.

Thanks.

Go to Control panel and double-click "Internet Options", then click the "Programs" tab and choose "Manage Add-ons". Disable every item, then click Apply/OK, then try opening IE7.

If it now opens correctly, the issue is caused by an add-on, and the disabled add-ons can be re-enabled one at a time to find the culprit.

Once IE is open, you may wish to go via the "Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Manage Add-ons"

Remember to close/open IE7 each time an add-on is re-enabled to see if the problem returns. Once the problem add-on is found, it can then be disabled permanently (as it's either corrupt, or likely not designed to work with IE7 correctly).

the ultimate solution to this would be to just use firefox :p

Lol, yeah, I downloaded it; installed and it works alright. But some programs that use the internet seem to just randomly close like IE does still. :/

Either way, I'd like to know what caused this problem :/

right click Internet Explorer>Internet properties>go to Advanced tab and select "Reset"

do you have AOL installed, this can cause problems, try removing this

Sorry for the double post - but I tried that but it still doesn't work. It just keeps closing when it finishes loading any page other than the one set as the home page.
