Problems with inno3d 6800GT Graphics Card

Hi guys,

I am having issues with my old Nvidia GeForce 6800GT card. I recently built a new rig using various components I had lying around. (Core 2 Duo 4300, 4gb DDR2, GA-73PVM-S2H, Antec 100 etc)
When I first set up the system I used the onboard gpu and Windows 7 64 Ultimate installed with no issues. The problems started when I tried this card. Windows appeared to boot fine but after a few seconds on the desktop it would BSOD. This happened a few times so I removed the card and updated to the latest drivers. (275.33 2011.06.01) This seemed to solve the problem with the BSOD but now I have noticed the system seems sluggish when opening, closing or minimising various windows. There seems to be a 1 -2 second delay and the window seems to close in 'frames'. Hard to accuratley explain but it seems there is something not quite right.
The card has plenty juice as its powered with a 700w PSU and I even tried stripping it, cleaning the GPU/Heatsink etc and applying new Ceramique compound but the problem persists?
I realise this is an old card and not the end of the world if I have to use onboard but I'm now just interested in what the problem could be. This card was last used in an XP system and as far as I remember it never had any issues.
I was about to strip it again and try the 200 degree oven bake method but thought I would ask for some advise before I try anything so drastic

Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.

I recommend you make sure all traces of the Intel drivers are gone and then reinstall the Nvidia ones. BEFORE you even think about chucking the 6800 in the oven, try a fresh install of Windows with the card in.

EDIT: Just realised it's an Nvidia motherboard. In that case, try setting the PCI-E freq in the BIOS to 101, disabling the onboard VGA, and then a fresh Windows install. That's all I can suggest.
