Hi all, i've just bought the below card from overclockers:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-036-HS

Problem i'm having is, the card is now up and running but is actually running games no better than my old 4870 1 gig.

My CPU is an i7 920 running at 3.6 mhz, 6 gig ddr3, I was expecting this card be a huge improvement, does anyone have any ideas why the card would not be preforming correctly or is the card just not that good?

I'm using a 550 watt power supply but I would have thought that would be plenty the run the card.

Any help would be appreciated.

i had the same problem with my Asus 6950 DirectCU II 2gig , i was running a 550W power supply and was advised to change it to at least 750W ,i ended up buying a 1000W and its made a hell of a difference ,

i would wait till more peeps post to give you more advice but that what i experienced and the power supply sorted the problem out

exact model of power supply ? also which game and and which resolution ? sometimes at lower res some much more expensive cards aren't that much faster

Clean sweep of the drivers with driver sweeper and then re seat the card and reinstall drivers chances are that will solve the problem however C64 may be on to something with the psu so thats worth considering :)

Im running a 2600K @ 4.7GHz with 8GB ram, 6950 flashed to 6970 and then overclocked some more, 3 mechanical hdd's, ssd, watercooling, 6 fans (120 - 140mm) and a pci e sound card on a 620w psu without any issues (Corsair HX620). I upgraded from my last system which was C2Q @ 4GHz and a 4870 and it made a massive difference. Using the same power supply a well.

Based on what I said I dont think the PSU is the issue but it does depend on brand. Can you try lowering your overclock back to stock + removing some stuff that you have to reduce power draw. Do you happen to have any graphical benchmarks with the 4870 and the 6950 to compare ?

My initial thought would be driver issues....what drivers are you using as well?

I'd go for driver sweeper, clean re install of the drivers....personally I'd say 11.4, These are a bit old now but they are perhaps the most stable...although 11.8 is supposed to be good to.

I upgraded to a 2gb 6950 from a 5830, at first it was running worse then the 5830 and I was trying to work out why, example Batman AA run great on full with the 5830, but was stuttering with the 2gb 6950. It can be things you are running, ie I am running Display Fusion, this worked fine with the 5830 and the drivers that were out 4 months ago. But this app was causing my 6950 with newest drivers to run rubbish, removed Display Fusion and WOW the card is now running fantastic.
