hi I've just brought a new 8800 GTS, when I turn the computer on nothing appears on the monitor. I hear the hard drives going so I think that windows still loads.
I've got:
A8N-SLI Premium (http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=15&l3=148&l4=0&model=539&modelmenu=1
Athlon FX-60
Enermax Galaxy 1000W
the 6 pin power cable is connected to the back of the card
So I don't think that it's a power problem and mobo is meant to be x16 PCI-Express
At the moment I've got no real idea, just going to update the mobo bios to see if that helps, I'd be very happy for any suggestions

had a similar problem with my 8800 GT, turned the PC on and ............. nothing..

was strange as the sytem ran my 8800 gts (320mb) fine it was just a straight swap.

It turned out to be ram related, removed 2 sticks or ram it worked, dual channel it borked again. Upped the volts by 0.5 v to the ram and it works a treat now with 3 x 1gb sticks.

could be similar problem...

I've now updated the bios to version 1303, I've tried booting the system with 0, 1, 2, 3 sticks of memory when I tried 3 I set it 2.65v still a plain screen, the one thing I did notice was during all that time the fan on the card was pretty loud but when I loaded the system up with no memory in the fan was almost silent idling
