Hi guys, i bought a toyota MR2 MK3 import last summer and recently i have had some problems. I experienced a lack of power when accelerating about 3 months ago, so i took it to a garage and after a lot of deliberating the mechanic decided it was the catalytic converter. He decided he could clean it up and this would sort it, which it did. However, over the last couple of weeks it seems to have been burning oil as it is using excessive amounts and smells bad! Could anyone inform me of any good garages in my area(Newcastle/North East) because the few i have visited seem uninterested. As you can tell i am not too clued up on cars so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forums :)

A guy called Lordmike on this forum owns an MR2 and should know what hes talking about so he should be able to give you some help :)

Can't really help you with the garage, but for the problem itself might be worth posting on either www.mr2oc.co.uk or www.imoc.co.uk both are mr2 clubs, although the mk2 is more popular both have members with mk1 and 3's that are knowledgable and might be able to help with a diagnosis, and maybe even a decent garage near you...

Search for a guy called Paul Woods on IMOC, he's an absolute genius when it comes to anything MR2 related (he's fitted the MR2 turbo engine to his Mk1, got bored and replaced it with a V6 which I believe is now being replaced with a V8)

He's based in Haswell or Houghton I believe so you shouldn't have far to travel.

Also try contacting him through his site http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/

I'd get a compression check on the car to make sure you wont be doing any further damage just in case the rings might be shot.

I agree with Skill, have a wander over to IMOC, it's a very helpful place.
For a local garage, I took my old MR2 Mk2 Turbo and my current WRX to Alyn at AS Performance. They're scoob specialists but they were happy to sort out my MR2, and I'd recommend them.
