Problems with my new build startup .. Please Help!

I installed XP on my new rig using sata cables with no problems. Just load set-up defaults in the bios first before you set DVD drive as your first boot device. Before doing this make sure your HDD is connected on the first sata connector and your DVD drive on either the last or second to the last sata connector. Make sure also that you're connected to the internet while doing this as XP with service Pack 2 will download all the necessary drivers for your set up.

I'll be honest I'm leaning towards an iffy CD but as you said it works elsewhere. ?!?!

Have you tried manually selecting the boot device during post? I think it is F8 on recent Asus boards.

Also, you havent got any USB devices plugged in have you? (other than a keyboard or mouse)

yes, the cd has worked elsewhere.

tried a manual boot using F8. same problem.

i dont have anything else plugged into the machine other than the monitor and this keyboard which both dont use USB.

i think as everything else is working think it's time to Rma the motherboard to where you got it!
ps i done a google search but it did not help much! i hope you get this problem sorted soon!
geek.

The problem seems quite common amongst p6t owners, but as said we have exhausted all possibilities it would appear. The only other thing I could think to try would be a bios flash is a newer bios is available and perhaps chuck a quick linux live CD together and see if it will boot that. Just be sure you have done everything you can think of before going for an RMA as there is nothing worse than getting the same board back and having to pay to be told the board tests OK.

got my pc working. it turned out to be the xp disk (somehow?). i ended up getting a use of my mates Win7 disk and it installed 1st time so i dont know why the xp disk wouldnt work.

all my drivers and other programs i've installed have been fine when using the DVDRW so its all good now :)

very happy with my pc now that its working :)
