Right, a bad start to a new build! :p

MSI GD65 mobo
Core i5 750
4GB Geil Ultra RAM

Built up the system last night and booted this morning. Managed to boot into my old install of windows without reinstalling and it just automatically updated all the drivers and was working fine. Was messing around with it at stock settings for half an hour or so then decided to overclock a little.

Booted to 3.6GHz easily so went for 3.8GHz. Took a few restarts messing with voltages to get it to pass IBT but managed with it at around 1.3V and was fine again to run a few benchmarks and things. Tried 4GHz using 21x 191(still had C1E and EIST on so had 21x multi) and it would be alright for 5 mins or so, then start being really jerky, even when on the desktop just moving the mouse round, then after about 20 seconds of that just freeze completely. Managed to read around and people suggesting turning C1E, EIST, Load line collaberation and spread spectrum off. Did all that, was running 200x 20 and same was still happening, all jerky then lock up completely.

Got annoyed with this so went back to the 3.8 I knew was stable, again, same thing happening! Loaded the default settings and the system was struggling to even boot!! Somtimes it would still be POSTing and would just stop there, not even let me get to the BIOS. Finally managed to get it to boot into windows after 5 or 6 attempts and just froze up after about 30 seconds.

Anyone any ideas on this at all? Cooling wise Im using a custom water loop and none of the cores were going above 55C when at 3.8GHz so doubt its a temp issue. Would a fresh install of windows help at all? Thought that might be the problem at first but when the system wasnt managing to POST it made me think it was somthing else

So yea, Im pretty confused! Was running fine and now not, not too pleased with it considering the cost :( Any help would be great, cheers

i'd do a clean install of windows, i'm guessing you just booted from an old installation, so that might be the problem there.

Thats what I was thinking, but others have had it running fine, and it also doesnt explain why it sometimes fails to POST, that part has nothing to do with the windows install

try to find an official thread on your mobo somewhere.
with my rampage 2, sometimes i get a cold boot issue where it fails to load, so have reset cmos and load my saved profile.
is your bios up to date?

BIOS isnt up to date, running 1.0 but have downloaded 1.3 and am ready to flash. Dont want to flash when it keeps locking up though. If it locks up when Im half way through flashing thats just a dead board :(

At first it did but like I said in the original post, now reverted back to default settings and its still freezing or refusing to boot

Just messing round now, removed 1 stick of RAM and it was the same, booted then froze as I tried to open Internet Explorer.

Put the stick I removed back in, removed the other and Im on my PC now (rather than my mums old athlon 64 system :p) and it seems to be running alright... fingers crossed!

But yea, if it turns out I have a faulty stick of RAM, should I get in touch with OCUK and send it back for replacement? Or would I have to send both back and be without my PC for a while? Its this Geil Ultra RAM and says it comes with a lifetime warranty (any warranty would be fine, only had it 2 days haha)

Ok, problem seems to be solved! :) while it was running stable with just the one stick of RAM in I flashed the BIOS to the latest ones and tried again with 2 sticks and seems to be working fine. Maybe just a problem with the BIOS but I dont know. Running memtest now to see if there is anything wrong with the memory but it managed to do 5 runs of maximum IBT alright :)

Cheers anyways guys
