Good Afternoon all,

Just wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas for my problem,

OK Specs

AMD 4200+ 2.2GHz
3GB Geil RAM
Gigabyte K8N Pro-SLi
Samsung Spinpoints x2 160GB
Sapphire HD2900XT

When i push the FSB past a certain point the computer cycles on a restart for ages then it will begin and load windows.

In detail, After about 210Mhz the computer loads the BIOS, checks the CPU, memory and then tells me my FSB is higher than it should be, at the next point it should detect the HDD and DVD drives, ie (Detecting IDE Devices) IF this does not happen soon the computer restarts and goes the the whole thing again and again, for about 10 mins, maybe more, then when it states "Detecting IDE devices" it will then allow me to load windows. I did have it the FSB about 227 i think the cpu was at about 2.47Ghz stable when windows loaded.

So I know it works but I want it to load first time. Any advice would be a help.

Thanks guys.

Have you set the correct memory voltage (DDR Voltage Control), dropped the Memclock Index Value to 166mhz, and dropped the HT Frequency to 4x?

How many sticks of RAM do you have? If it's four then you'll have to drop DRAM Timing to 2T too.

The Memclock Index Value is the RAM divider. It drops the speed of your memory so that it doesn't interfere with the CPU overclocking.

You can leave the timings on auto til you have finished overclocking the CPU.

Well then that leaves me at a stopping point, becase if the first reply was right i need to adjust my memory timings in order to stop my computer from doing a restart cycle before it loads the IDE Devices, and then allows my OS to boot!

Do you mean the 'DRAM Timing'? That's a single option in BIOS that can be changed from 1T to 2T. As I've already said, change it to 2T with four sticks.

basically slows the command rate at which the mobo address the RAM 2T is slower than 1T.. but as you increase the frequency at which the RAM runs i.e. speed it up to cope with a faster FSB you have to lower the performance of the RAM to ensure its stable at higher FSB speeds

Well I dont have much experience of OC'in AMD chips/motherboards.. but in short hopefully! There are a number of factors that effect a stable clock in short these are:
- CPU Stability - which is normally sorted by increasing voltage to the CPU
- RAM Stability - which is sorted by the RAM Timings and Command Rate
- At high Overclocks you may need to change voltages through your northbridge

Motherboards can be funny things just like women  they may work at certain FSB speeds where as if you lower the FSB my even 1mhz they may throw a wobbly! Its about finding the 'right' setup so lots of trial and error

Is best to read the overclocking guides should give you an idea about where to start.. Its well advised to only be changing 1 factor at a time that effects the stability of the system that way you can identify what is going on when you have reached the maxium performance of a certain componant.

OK, So I have updated my DRAM Timing, to 2T, and updated my multiplyer setting to x4 also adjusted the HT Width to 16x8 and the computer still will boot up, check the RAM, CPU, but it will not find the IDE Drives then restart.

PLease help me!
I have the FSB at 220 and the speed is at about 2.4 something. thanks.

I have updated my BIOS to the latest version, I think i may have better luck, but can i ask what is meant by the MemClock Index Value to 166? because i notice that when I pushed up my FSB the ram went up too, any help? thanks.

Good Morning ALL, Just wanted to ask if anyone else had any more suggestions, as I am still having this whole restarting business with my computer when I overclock it.

I have updated the BIOS, I have downgraded the ram to T2, I have downed the RAM CPU ratio, I think. And It still restarts and restarts then when it detects the IDE Drives it will load windows. Any ideas please?

Thanks.

Dropping the MemClock Index Value to 166mhz lowers the memory speed and prevents it from running too fast as you up your CPU clock (well until you hit a certain CPU speed. Then you drop it to 133mhz if needed).

Is it still only getting to 210Mhz?

Has anyone get any Ideas for me?? Please I really need some help here. I now have my FSB at 230 but It still goes the above mentioned restart cycle! Please Any one have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
