When i first overclocked everything i got my Q9650 to 4.140ghz. its took massaive amounts of volts to get it to run stable. but now it starting to blue screen. i went from 4.1ghz-4.0ghz-3.9ghz-3.8ghz now am on 3.6ghz running stable with everything on auto. if i try to get it stable on manuel i get blue screen every time and lock ups. i tryed diffrent ram. and the same happens so it could be the cpu/mobo. if i set everything stock. @3ghz its fine, ran it stable for 36 hours the other day an not one time did it blue screen. The problem is while yes its a old high end cpu my worry is that my 2x5870 will be bottle necked buy the cpu.
If it comes to it and i will have to upgrade my cpu/mobo/ram at what level would i have to look at to get a visable performants increase. i dont wana spend loads on a new set up and not see any differents in speed. to me thats a wasted of money..

Your 5870CF won't be bottlenecked by your CPU. A Core 2 Quad (45nm) at 2.83GHz is approximately as fast as a Phenom II X4 at 3.2GHz, with this in mind - have a look at this article (the 5970 is close to the speed of 5870CF).

As for overclocking your Q9650, i would suggest starting the overclocking process again and digging up a good guide for OCing your mobo and CPU - so you can apply the best settings for a new overclock.

Went through all that when i overclocked the CPU for the first time. even found someone with the same board running the Q9550/and Q9650. but all setting where unstable. ether i have a dodgy mobo or it's the CPU.
