Hiya,

at the minute i am on the virgin media 20Mb connection, however after building a new computer i am unable to cennect up to my modem using ethernet, however USB connections works every time.

The Motherboard i have is this one https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-088-GI

I have installed and updated all drivers and flashed the Bios and still i cannot connect via ethernet.

The message i get is simply "A network cable is disconnected".

I have tried 4 different ethernet cables of varying length to no avail, i have also powered down the system and modem for over 24 hours and this has done nothing.

I should also say that i am not running through a router or anything else, the connections are simply PC - MODEM via ethernet.

Your help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

N.B I have tried contacting Virgin media technical support but both of the numbers that i have for them are unavailable, i did confirm with customer services that they were the correct numbers.

Thanks for the reply....what exactly do you mean by a cross over cable, and why should i need one.

Sorry if i am being naive.
