Problems with new re-build

Hi people. a mobo recently died on my mate so he got me to get him a new one to get his pc back up and running. It arrived yesterday so i pulled the old one out, plugged the new one in with a different 450w psu (which i know works) and his old cpu and mem that he bought from me when i upgraded. for some reason tho when i try to re-install windows the pc get to the point after it installs the drivers needed for windows installation then just shuts the pc down! I have no idea what could be causing this. i stress tested the cpu and memory 4 days ago in another system to be sure this wasn't causing the initial problem and it all ran from 4 hours on prime with n probs. The new Mobo is a chaintech 7VIF4 and i'm using it with 1gig matched curcial sticks of 512mb each cas 2.5, and athlon xp 3000 cpu with fsb of 333mhz. I can see no reason for it to be doing this.

Anyone got any ideas? thanks for your help!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that after the pc shuts itself off i have to turn it off at the wall to be able to turn it back on again.

firstly, make sure all your connections are secure and the RAM is seated in securely.. Maybe clean all the connectors.

Next, make sure you reset the CMOS and retry with the safest settings first. What frequency is your RAM rated at. Also, make sure that the memory timings are set to Auto or SPD.

Make sure the RAM has the recommended voltage..

also the Xp 3000+ are you certain it's the 333MHz version and not the 400MHz version?

Ram is pc2700 so 333mhz, xp3000 is my old one, as is the ram, so i know its at 333mhz fsb. I;m just stuck as to what to do next!!

well since it's only the motherboard you've changed it most likely to be a setting in the BIOS or a compatinilty issue somewhere.

Have you re-set the CMOS and changed to "safe" settings?

Try also booting into DOS from a boot disk and run a scandisk on your primary H/D.. disconnect the secodary for the time being until the problem is resolvled. This will tell you if thee are any faults or bad sectors on that drive.

Have you checked the manufactureres website for known problems and/or BIOS updates.. You may have to flash the BIOS in order to achieve compatabilty.

Lastly, check that the RAM is getting the correct power, as I have previously said.
