Problems with new build

I've just managed to put together a new build of the following parts;

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte DS3 Motherboard
2GB GeIL PC6400 Ultra Low Latency Ram
HIS 1900XT
PC7+ Case
Seasonic 500W PSU
74GB Raptor (main O/S drive)
250GB Seagate 7200.10

However I've encounted a bit of a problem with installing certain applications / games...

Basically I'm unable to install few applications so far (worried there maybe more however I'm unable to verify yet) these include;

- Windows Vista (5532) as during the installation process it says it's unable to load a file
- Half Life 2 (gets to the actual install, after clicking next a few times it trys to install the game and then the install screen just disappears, I try load the installer again and it says one is already running)
- Microsoft Office 2003 (installer stays stuck in progress bar, then after a while the application has magically installed)

I've tried swapping DVDRWs with the one in my parents PC and I get the same issues even with that, I've also tried swapping the IDE cable to see if it was that; again it didn't fix anything... the strange thing here is that if I try and install Half Life 2 on my parents PC it installs fine (with her DVDRW that I've also tried in mine)

I recently flashed the BIOS to version F5 and loaded fail-safe and optimised defaults and again, no fixes.

.. Any ideas what could be causing all these errors?

It's strange that most things install fine; I've managed so far to install Prey, Lego Starwars, Flat Out and drivers etc not to mention Windows XP.

Mmm :confused: could it be a RAM issue by any chance? I've ran memtest for 1h and it came up with no errors.. I've yet to try and run something like SP2004.. I'll do that tomorrow.
