Hi there,

Have a problem with my new build:

Q6600
2x1GB ocz flex Pc6400
Corsair hx 620W
X1900XT
1x 250gb sata.
asus p5k

when i press the "on button" all the fans start spinning at full speed (and dont slow down) - there is no video output. there is also a constant clicking 1 click every half a second.

whats wrong?

thanks.

EdiT: well it appears the clicking has stopped - but still no video ouput

Components can get damaged when rebuilding PC's, so don't rule it out. However, there are plenty of other things you should check first, so don't panic just yet!

First of all, try resetting the CMOS. Check all power cables are connected according to the mobo manual (24 pin and 8 pin mobo connectors, and PCIe connector on to the gfx card), and check that the CPU/RAM/gfx card are all properly seated. If it still doesn't get any further, try removing all non-essential components and see if the PC will POST, i.e. unplug HDDs, DVD drives, sound cards etc.

Aite well there is only a 4 pin connector on my motherboard (not an eight)

I have managed to get it too boot now, which only one stick of ram in - so i will do some troubleshooting from there

Good good, possibly a RAM issue then (either dodgy stick/sticks or timing/voltage). As you suggest, troubleshoot from there now that you've found the root of the problem :)
