Hey guys, i have a little problem with a new build. Trying to install windows from a usb stick and the install took well over a hour. windows will boot now but it's painfully slow, even a page refresh takes around 5 seconds and if i try to shut the pc down it will after about 3 to 5 minutes. But restart works.

Reset Bios.
Changed all cables.
Changed Ram.
Tried a different Hard Drive.
Stripped and rebuilt.
Fresh 2nd copy of windows from new ISO

Spent many hours looking on line but nothing i have found worked.

It's looking like it may be the motherboard, has anyone had this problem before. Its a new one for me.

Specs

Windows 10 Home
Asus Prime B450M-A
Ryzen 3 3100
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 3000 MHz
Crucial MX500 500 GB SSD
Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 570
be quiet! Pure Power 11 500W

How long does it take to boot into windows ?

Have you checked task manager to see if anything is running?

All drivers loaded and up to date?

Boot time is ok, around 10 sec from hitting start. Only a few system programs running, nothing stands out. cpu @ 1% usage and memory @ 16%.
All drivers are up to date. When i select shutdown it tells me its shutting down for around 5 mins, the screen will go off but the pc still takes around another 5 mins to shut down completely.

Interesting .
Do a mem test . See if ram pass.

Maybe try different SATA ports. For Hdd.
Oh maybe just maybe your hdd is playing up.
It might be overheating. Investigate how hot your hard drive gets.
Some drives can slow system down to a crawl if to hot.

Hi Benass

I did try other SATA ports but still the same. Didn't try a mem test yet but did swap out the ram for 8GB of hyper predator, still the same. Tried all 4 ram slots, tried both SSD and SATA hard drives.

Installing windows was also very very slow, far too slow, as if the install was hanging or freezing. Going to do a RMA on the board, swapped all the parts out and 2 fresh installs and still the same problem.

Have you updated the firmware of the SSD to the latest version? Also is the SATA mode set to ACHI?

Hi theforce,

No i didn't try to update firmware as it was doing it on none SSD hard drives too. Not sure about the SATA mode and the board is now back in its box and ready to return. Spent way too much time on this one. Build a pc, stick flash drive in and turn on, wait 10 to 15 minutes for option to install windows, install time well over a hour from that point, something not right there. Already ordered a replacement but a Gigabyte board this time.

Thanks to everyone for the advice :)
