Picked up new (2nd hand) car last week (2003 seat Toledo v5). The day after I got it, it wouldn't start, as the battery was flat.

Got it going and got the battery tested. It passed the tests and just needed charging. Took it for a long drive to charge it up and thought that was the end of it.

Next day, same happened. Something had drained the battery.

The car dealer picked it up and took it to be mended and dropped it back to me yesterday. The garage had identified a fault that was causing the battery tobdrain and fixed it. All was working fine last night.

This morning - dead again.

Starting to get a bit fed up of it now as I have a car I can't use. At what point would it be reasonable to say I just don't want the car and get a refund, and what should I expect if I go down this route? I part exchanged my old car for this one, but don't really want that back either!

I take it the alternator is definately charging? No lights etc on dash?

It's probably an earthing fault somwehere - it shouldn't be too difficult for them to sort out plus it's a decent car the toledo v5, take it you got it for a bargain basement price? I'd give them another chance to sort it.

Thanks for the link to the video. Looks good. Will try it this evening. Would have thought that the garage who had the car for 2 days would have tried this though...

Had a go at identifying the fault last night, with no success. Battery was completely drained, so couldn't get any readings.

Its been back to the garage who have 'found another drain' and fitted a new battery. Will see what happens now...

The dealer I got the car from is getting as fed up with it as I am, nd the garage he took it too seem rather vague as to what the actual fault is.

It might even be the battery itself. It's not unheard of.

So I got the car back on Friday. Saturday evening and it was dead again. It's being picked up to go to the garage again tomorrow.

Not happy as each time they have apparently fixed 'something'. I'm considering rejecting the car and asking for a refund. Has anyone done this? Only problem I can see is that I traded my old car in against this one, and I don't really want that back either!

Given they've had a good few goes at fixing it now i'd be inclined to agree that you should at least informally ask for your cash back - it sounds like the place you bought from have been good so far so at least initially don't be confrontational.

Last chance to resolve the problem or you want a refund, make sure that's understood by all concerned.
