Everyone seems to get i3 well into 4Ghz but I cannot break 3.9Ghz no matter how many volts i pump up even tried max setting in the red but still limited to 178x22 BLCK.

ps spotted possible mistake am i ment to isolate the ram from BLCK? how is this done?

The ram will have a multiplier option within the BIOS, I run 1600mhz ram with my multiplier at 8 with the cpu BCLK at 200.

What model Asus board you using?

Edit: Found the board, Looking at the BIOS in shows DRAM Frequency, have a look at that.

Thanks i had a look and found DRAM Freq but not sure what to do with it? its already populated with numbers which seems to bare no relation to anything else and won't let me type a number in either

Asus P7H55-USB3
Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL9 1.5V
Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz

Ingleberry, am using the same motherboard and i3 as you and at the moment am running at 4.032Ghz with low temps etc. Would you like me to post my BIOS settings, would they be of any use to you?

Here is a list of my bios settings for same mobo and i3 cpu ( am using 1600Mhz ram )
A1 overclock tuner =manual
CPU ratio setting = 21
Xtreme phase full power mode = enabled
BCLK frequency =194
BCLK /iGPU =auto
DRAM frequency = 1552 Mhz
QPI frequency = auto
CPU diff amp = auto
CPU clock skew = auto
CPU voltage mode = manual
Fixed voltage = 1.2875 v
IMC voltage = auto
Dram voltage = 1.650v
CPU PLL = auto
PCH voltage = auto
IGPU voltage = auto
Auto PSI = enabled
Load Line Cal = auto
PCIE spread = disabled
PCI/PCIeCLK = enabled
That is 4.074 Ghz and core voltage according to CPUID is 1.256 V
runs prime 95 good with temps at idle 30C and load 55C.
Have had it running at speeds of up to 4.4, but the speed I am at at the moment seems to be a good balance between temps and volts.
Hope that is of some use to you.

46 the goat thank you thats a great help comparing settings now found some of my noobie errors. I plugged in your exact settings but it became unstable under intel burn test, temps never breached 48 degrees C now with using your lower Vcore setting.

Just seems my pc refuses to post beyond 178 BCLK attempted all the way upto 220 BCLK with increments of 10. Also does not give me DRAM frequency = 1552 Mhz i only options from 4-8Ghz

Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL9 1.5V KVR1333D3N9K2/4G

Hi Ingleberry, this is my first attempt at overclocking too, I followed as best I could the info at the top of the page, adjusting frequency and voltage and checking temps, I don't know if mine is a good O/C or not, but all seems to be running fine at the moment.
Have you tried the Asus Auto overclock setting, I tried this before trying to O/C manualy and it gave me 4.032Ghz without me doing anything else.
21 X 192 at 1.248V
Keep trying, best of luck.

I could not get Asus Auto overclock to work at all, banging my head for days on end someone kindly pointed out the ram should be in blue slots not black at first i was told to use black slots for overclocking clearly this recommendation is wrong.

With ram in the correct blue slots, Asus TurboV software works, still can't use Auto tuning but atleast manual adjustment within windows is stable, with few reboots i charged through with experimenting.

Standard
BCLCK 133 Mhz
Multiplier 22x
Vcore 1.16875
IMC 1.1v
DRAM 1.5v

My previous overclock now became unstable during intel burn test?
BCLCK 178 Mhz
Multiplier 22x
Vcore 1.2625
IMC 1.25v
DRAM 1.5v

Now I reached
BCLCK 204 Mhz
Multiplier 18x
Vcore 1.2375
IMC 1.35v
DRAM 1.56v

Between BCLCK of 170-200 appeared unstable likewise the multiplier seemed happier at lower setting 18x vs 22x both of which I don’t understand?

Attempted more Vcore which seemed to do very little until breaching 1.356v but then I could raise the multiplier upto 21x and temps during intel burn test peaked at 77 degrees in core temp.

Guess I have a crap i3 ?
