Hi i currently have A 3.2GHz phenom II X4 955 BE, a ASUS M4A79T Deluxe Mobo and 8gig DDR3 1600MHz Ram, I want to unleash the full pottential of my system but have to admit, i am a bit of a noob when it comes to overclocking.
Here are my problems, i cannot get it to run stable at any more than 3.3 (16.5*200) i am using 3D Mark 05 to test and benchmark, it pases the first 3 tests (the shoot-em up scene, the fairy lights scene and the dragon scene, then it is supposed to run through them again but my system reboots, but i have heard of people overclocking these to over 4.0GHz,

Also in CPU-z my ram is reporting as 535.1MHz but it is supposed to be 1600MHz

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there I will try to help u out with this.

Before I start plz dont try this on the stock Heatsink and fan that came with the 955BE.
Make sure u also have good air flow if u are air cooling.
Also note settings that have worked for me mite not work for u. Also if u do not feel
safe messing with the setting then dont. As any damage done while over clocking is not
covered by warranty .My setup is on the ASUS
M4N82 Delux but I have set my friends system to the same settings and he has
the M4A79T Deluxe same as yourself.

These settings tend to work on most setups.
To OC your CPU to 3.6-3.7MHz U will frist need to add some volts too your Vcore ( CPU Voltage )
Set your Vcore too 1.425 which is below the max safe with the 955BE ( Max Safe 1.500v )
U can check This for your self at AMDs site.
Now for 3.6MHz set your Multiplier to 18.0 or 18.5 for 3.7MHz and with any luck that
should give u a stable OC on your CPU.

As for your ram unless there is a setting in the bios to set it to 1600MHz U would need
to do your CPU and RAM OC on the FSB also using the multiplier with the FSB for the CPU.
U will Proberly also need to enter your ram timmings manual. U can find the timmings at the makers site.
Here is a link on the most common way to go about this.
http://www.techreaction.net/2009/05/28/phenom-ii-am3-overclocking-essentials/

For now tho u could set the CPU from the settings above and also try and OC the
North Bridge Clock in the bios by setting it to 2,600 MHz and also the Hyper Transport
Clock to 2,400MHz. Which would boost your performance even more than just a CPU OC.
For this to be stable tho u will need to up the CPU-NB VID a little.
I have mine set to 1.2500. Which is stable with my current setup

My current OC is
CPU 3.7MHz
NB 2.6MHz
HT 2.4MHz
Ram not OC set to 1066MHz.

(Not a bad OC since the lasted time I OC a chip was with 1.4MHz duron when they came out lol. Just shows what a little reading up can get u)

Here are 2 screen shots with Everest with my settings running.
MaX CPU temp I get under full load dose not pass 45c on CPU and 46 on each of the 4 cores.
Plz note pay close attention to your temps as 52c and above u will start to run into problems
62c and u will start to damage your CPU.

Hope I have been of some help to u with your problem. Also anyone else who is running into the same problems. As u can see from my OC u dont need to shove loads of volts into the CPU for an OC to work. The lower the volts the better. I am going to try getting mine even lower on the CPU and see if I still run stable.
P.s I have had higher clocks on my 955 but fount 3.6-3.8 to be the most stable. 3.8 is a little harder to reach with some setups.

Almost forgot as u said u have heard of people running these at over 4.0MHz. Well this is ture it is also ture at 4.0MHz u will not be 100% stable ( Unless u are using some fancy tech too cool the CPU as the Phenom II have been fount to love the cold and low volts). U can look this up for your self as I have fount many Forums on it, Its also why I went back down to 3.7MHz as 300 more MHz is not missed with the HT and NB OC aswell as being a lot more stable.

Plz let me know if this has help u with setting as the only way I will know is by replys to the forum.

Thanks Dark Earth
