Hi all,

Not sure whether this is the right place to post or not but here goes!!!

As a noob to overclocking I have a few questions I was wondering if any of you could help me!

I have tried overclocking my ram so that it runs quicker but I have come across problems, the story is:

I wanted to change is how quick my ram is running because when I boot up, on the bios boot sequence screen it says my ram is running at 533mhz when I have ddr2 800 Ram, I’m not sure if this is right and id like it running at 800 mhz.

When I tried setting user defined speeds in my bios to 4-4-4-12 and 800 mhz and I saved it, it rebooted my machine and there was no signal being sent to the monitor but the machine is still running with nothing on the monitor, not even the bios boot thing.

Another problem I have had with overclocking is that when I try and change my processor frequency from 266 to 333 (X 9 ??) I come across the same problem as with my ram. There is no signal being sent to the monitor.

My mobo is an abit ab9 quatgt
CPU is a core2Duo e6600
Ram is 2gb Geil ddr2
PSU is a hiper modular 530 watt psu if this is necessary to know (is it not giving out enough power??)

Using stock cooling for the cpu.

I have to be doing something wrong as im a newb! I just don’t know what :P maybe im understanding guides wrong, who knows :S

Any help would be excellent!!

Thanks,
Russ

Thanks guys for the help so far :P

when i get home im going to try the following.
1. change my ram voltage to 2.1v and save to see if my pc boots :P
2. change my fsb from auto to 400 (i think this is right)
3. change my cpu multiplier to 6 (6x400=2400 - stock speed of my processor??)
4. Reboot after steps 2 and 3 to test
5. Change Ram latency's to 4-4-4-12 (like it says on the tin :P)
6. Come and ask more questions on here!! :D

is this right. or are my concepts totally off?!

Cheers,
Russ.

edit: changed steps!

Just an update here!!!

i have my ram running at 800mhz now :D 2:3 ratio if i remember correctly.

and my processor is at 2.61 ghz.

id love for my processor to go further but when i try anything around the 300 x 9 mark when my machine reboots it does not get to the bios screen and it just crashes out saying it cant read from a floppy drive (i have none in the machine and have disabled all options to do with them)

I'm confused to say the least

Any help would be awesome!

Thanks,
Russ.

i was wondering whether or not anyone had any idea's?
