Problems with PCI devices (bit long i'm afraid)

Hi,

Have a weird issue that I'm hoping someone may be able to solve.

Took my pc apart (xp home sp2) to change the chipset fan (asus a8n-e) for a Zalman heatsink, all went well. Also changed the DVD/RW drive while at it.

On putting the system back together I had problems and deduced that the pci Creative sound card I had was causing bootup to crash out. Took it out and all seemed fine. Then noticed the wireless pci card popped up asking for drivers as if newly installed.

Driver installs failed (different versions of drivers), saying that device could not be started (error 10) Managed to get an install done but wireless nic still flagged with an exclamation mark and not working.

In see hidden mode, device manager shows several different entries for the wireless card miniport, but on trying to uninstall these get 'device cannot be removed as may be used to boot' or similar (even in safe mode).

Have tried changing PCI allocation in BIOS, assigning manually then automatically, tried plug and play bios on/off. Seems to be a resource issue somehow or maybe the stuck devices. Also reran sp2 over the top to see if that made any difference.

Anyone know how to remove those 'stuck' devices? Onboard rj45 nic works fine but am curious as to why both the sound card and wireless (both pci) suddenly became knackered when pc was put back together.

Any help very gratefully received as I'm about to go crazy! :)

Cheers

You didn't move the PCI boards without un-installing them - I moved a board once and it didn't work - had to put it back into the same slot, uninstall the software then move the board.
