Trying to reinstall xp on a mates laptop, a cybercom FA2000, drive has been formatted and for some reason it just wont go any further keeps switching off.

laptop use to belong to his mum who would pile it full of every little junk program you could think off, drive when it was working sounded bad,

but now all it does is come up with NTLDR is missing

any ideas

Have you told the laptop to boot from CD?

Also, have you been succesful at all at getting it to boot and install, does it go so far and then stop? Or does the message appear during the initial boot (dos screen)?

i have know this to happen, if when you format the cd you dont select fat32 as your file system

dotn know if it is the same problem, but might be worth trying

its all sorted now, cd/dvd drive is fubar as is the hard drive took all noght to install but it finally did it
