Hey,

Just tonight I finished building my rig and seemed have hit a snag.. Both my 970s were powered on and after 1-2 hours installing updates ect and changing some wires about now only one works? Could it be my PSU? Note I didn't have wires to fit second 970 into PSU only powered by motherboard

Gigabyte GA-Z97X SLI
2x gigabyte 970x
650w mk 111

Any help would be appreciated thanks

There is your problem. Graphics cards cannot run from the motherboard alone. They need all their external power connectors plugged in. What is the brand of your power supply?

Silencer mk iii if that's any help? They both were, but one which was connected to the PSU stopped working? Now when I try to connect it nothing happens but when I connect to the other it works? They both at least lighted up before

Tried taking working GPU out and putting other in its place and still no power, so im guessing faulty gpu

Are you using the cables that came with the PSU? I tried to use cables from a different PSU and only afterwards was told that you can't. The cables are tuned, for want of a better word, to the specific PSU. If you use a cable from a different PSU, it can have disastrous effects.
