problems with Steam?

I couldn't connect briefly last night; it was fine afterwards but now Stronghold Kingdoms won't load. It keeps saying it needs Steam to be in online mode even though it is. I've tried reinstalling, checking integrity etc.

The content servers were being hammered last night, I assume is related to the 13GB+ install of the MW3 Free multiplayer weekend.

Could be unrelated but maybe the onslaught affected something?

OMG it's happened again. This is ****ing me off now. Either it's Steam's fault or the Stronghold dev, but whoever it is is a ****. :mad:

When I launch Stronghold Kingdoms in Steam, it goes through the update check then either says "Steam needs to be in online mode" or gets to the server select screen but does nothing. I guess it's probably a problem with the game rather than Steam, but I've already reinstalled once and haven't lost my connection or anything, so I can't think why it won't work. I just get really annoyed when there's no apparent explanation for something not working.
