When im playing TF2 with an average of about 20 ping i will just be walking along then the screen will go back 4 meters as if i havnt already got there. It jumps back. I know its not a lag issue.. Whats up with it?

Same happens to me a lot with my wireless, I think it's the connection tbh. It's showing you where you really are on the server as opposed to where you think you are on the client. It's like when you get shot when you were sure you were already around that corner.

In my case I'm 90% sure it's my connection's fault.

hmm okay.

so do i just put

cl_updaterate 100
cl_cmdrate 100
rate 50000

into the console?

yeah

pressing enter after each line to input it. This is assuming you're using some kind of broadband connection (be it ADSL cable etc..) and not dialup, which is what about all the default HL engine settings are good for :D

Thanks

I am broadband but wireless.

Soon will be getting a homeplug though.

the wireless may well have something to do with it

give the settings a try, if they dont work, keep them then try homeplug. You should see a dramatic difference.

shouldnt the Rate figure match your BB speed (i.e. 4mbit = 40000)

Also, cl_updaterate should be set no higher than your framerate if you use vsync on a TFT.

Hmm, I've been having the same issues, and always just assumed it was my connection and there was nothing I could do about it. Might have to give this a try tonight.

PK!

Done all the above and it still plays up..

This also does the same thing with COD4..

The weird thing is, it was all alright until i reinstalled my PC. Before it would occasionally do it but a restart would solve it. Since reinstalling the system i cant get rid of it. :(

Any ideas?
