Basically, I'm on a rubbish computer back at home from university, and I want to load some music that's on here onto my MP3 player, but it's stopped detecting it. It one day decided to work again randomly, so I loaded some music on then, but now it's stopped detecting it again. It's not that the Creative software isn't detecting the MP3 player, the entire computer isn't. I've tried with different cables and different MP3 players but to no avail. All I can think of is loading new USB drivers or similar? I haven't really got much of a clue :p
I loaded Sisoft so I could find out what my motherboard is:

But I still can't figure out what I need to google to get motherboard drivers...I've been away from this area of computers for too long so I don't know what to do anymore lol....Also I was thinking, seeing as it's a rubbish computer, could the amount of power available be limiting whether the USB drives work or not?

Thanks in advance.

have you tried using differnt USB ports? the thing is you can only use the same USB port as the one you installed it with.

PS, mars volta rocks.

Yep I have :/ The random thing is, that the MP3 player lights up to signify it's been plugged into a USB port, but is still not detected.

I had similar problem yesterday with my ipod and it would briefly appear in My computer as a drive letter and then disappear again

The only way I found of getting it back (as i couldnt use another cable) after trying several diff ports actuallly connected to mobo was to re-initialise/ re-format the player

A real pita but I couldnt think of any other option

I had a similar experience the other day with my ipod. For the first time the battery went fully flat and it wouldn't charge from any usb ports. Some ports got no response, others breifly connected and then nothing. I rebooted my PC and it worked fine. I assume you've tried that but I never had that prob before and I never normally reboot my PC so it didn't occur to me for a while. There's no logical reason for it to have happened either.

Prob not that helpful for your situation but it might shed some light for others.
