I recently bought a 15 plate ibiza 1.2 tsi black edition from my local SEAT dealership.this was 9 weeks ago. I'm having a few issues with the car,it was in to get a new fuel pump installed a couple of weeks ago, took it back last week & now they are telling me it needs New coils & cables fitted for the same issue. Engine has a rattle from it when dropping back down the revs & it's misfiring. This is being fixed under warranty. I only have 3 weeks warranty left I.unless I take out another warranty.also, they have not supplied the v5 yet.this was sent to the wrong address by the salesman
What are my rights as far as this goes ? Pretty unhappy that it's been in for repair 3 times in 9 weeks. Just wondering what will go wrong next

Any advice would be most helpful

Didn't the car come with a 12 month warranty from the dealer as part of buying a used car from them?

If not, why not?

Choose your approved used car with complete confidence, knowing that you’ll get a full history and comprehensive multipoint check with every car. Once you’re on the road you can relax, knowing that you’ve got complimentary five days insurance , a 12-month warranty and Roadside Assistance. And if you do find an issue? Not a problem. We’ve got a 30-day exchange promise.

Dependent on source, some SEAT Approved Used Cars may have had multiple users as part of a fleet and/or be ex-business use. In order to meet the SEAT Approved programme requirements, all cars are subject to a rigorous Multi-Point Check by our trained SEAT Technicians to ensure that they meet the same exacting standards regardless of source. For further details, please consult your SEAT Dealer.

It has came up here before unlike BMW Seat dealers don't have to sell the second hand Seats as used approved so you can buy them without the extra warranty cover.

The rattle coming down the revs is likely the turbo actuator they have a fix for this, if it rattles on a cold start that is likely the timing chain.

You could start the process of rejecting the car, I have done this recently and it is a pain aswell as time consuming. I would be tempted to let them change the coils and wiring loom and see how it is after this.

If you do keep the car extend the warranty with Seat, it is not expensive around £300 a year (if a similar price to a Fabia) The 1.2 TSi is a complicated engine and can have some eye watering bills, my Mum's 1.2 TSI Fabia had a new turbo fitted due to the wastegate sticking which was 1.6k if not under warranty,

Only 3 months on the dealers website
Our Pre-Owned Car Scheme, which offers quality pre-owned cars with a 102-point vehicle check backed up by a 3 month warranty included and at least 6 months MOT. The warranty can be extended to 12 or 24 months at a cost based on age and mileage of the car. All our vehicles have a full mileage and history check for added peace of mind and all cars are prepared by fully qualified service technicians in a fully equipped service department. You can even take out a flexible service plan to cover your future servicing requirements based on your mileage and what you want to be included, this can be paid in advance or monthly.

I would like to keep the car,but I'm a bit worried about the stuff going wrong already. I've only done 400 miles in it. I will have to take out the extended warranty for a bit extra security

Make sure you get the Seat approved warranty not a 3rd party one supplied by the dealer.

Get it through this link

I would take it up with the dealer you bought the car form that due to all the issues and return visits they should cover or make a significant contribution to the cost of the extended warranty,

Consumer rights act 2015 says the fault is assumed to be present at point of sale for the first 6 months - as you've already made complaints I would just email them making it clear that the goods have been supplied faulty at the outset and that all these return trips are still the same complaint. Your 3 month warranty only ends when the car is actually free from faults, them failing to fix a fault within the three months doesnt suddenly mean you lose the right to have a fault fixed that you already complained about.

100% this.

You have a 3 year old car, it should be pretty much 100% mechanically fine, don't let them fob you off. Do your research online, there is a lot of advice out there.

Thanks for all the info folks, much appreciated.

The knocking sound seems worse from a cold start. Just finished work tonight & my workmate pointed out that both front headlights are fogged up inside too. I've never noticed this before as when the headlights are on I'm driving & you can't see it in daylight. Thought these were sealed units,Jesus,it just goes from bad to worse. Now the car is going in on Thursday for the coils to be replaced. The said they had found the misfire when looking at it last week, but surely New coils won't fix that, will it ?
I'm struggling a bit with all this,as I'm not that mechanically minded

When I take it in on Thursday,do I just tell them I don't want it back until all the issues are resolved & should I speak to the sales manager about this. Sorry guys, but I'm not too clued up as what to do overall. I paid a lot of cash for the car, more than I should have I think tbh & it cost me all I had. This is also the first time I've bought a car from a dealership

When I first went to see it,it looked spotless, engine looked brand new, alloys all good, all inside looked immaculate.full service history. Just feel like I've been had

Thanks

Rob

In basic terms, coil packs control the flow and distribution of electricity to the parts of the engine that need them - so yes, replacing faulty ones could easily cure a misfire.

Thanks for the info, that's good to know

Email them detailing everything and all the times you took it in already. if it comes to it you will need a record showing it was a dog from day one and they kept failing to fix it.

Engine has a rattle from it when dropping back down the revs & it's misfiring. This is being fixed under warranty.

Did they say what the rattle was? I've got a rattle on mine when it drops down the revs and I suspect it's the common issue of the turbo actuator going bad.

They just said that they were going to change the coils & cables

Miss fire can be melted ht leads on that engine. Adding the rattle into the equation, it could be a chain stretch or tensioner issue. My 2011 1.2 TSI had a stretched chain and would idle poorly, and sound like a diesel when it was started hot. I've also had melted HT leads twice now as the wires touch a coolant pipe and pass close to the turbo. Eventually they break down enough to cause issues.

The engine is fundamentally flawed with the two above issues. The chain is a days work. If it's not done, eventually it will destroy the engine.

Had very similar issues with my 1.2TSI, and equally poor service from the main dealer.
After getting sick of the endless "oh this is the first time we've ever seen an issue like this" charade and waiting around for parts, I went through SEAT UK customer service who eventually resolved the issue (albeit I was still out of pocket even after goodwill). Shortly after the gearbox lunched itself and I got rid.

Never again. I know everybody says this after a bad car experience, but the attitude of the dealership bordered on comical. Definitely feeling your pain.
