This is quite vague so forgive me. Windows updates basically keep failing. Sticking points on the downloads etc and when installing. I ran the troubleshooter on the MS website which after completion said it "fixed" various issues. However , the problem still persists.
Also, I can't seem to turn on spyware protection and virus protection. Always get the 2 messages in the bottom right of desktop in the action centre.
I uninstalled third party such as Malwarebytes but get the same issue.
ANy help would be much appreciated.
Regards.

when they fail it should normally give you a error code so you can look in to the issue.

I have seen this before where its malware or something has screwed up the windows update process.

before removing malwarebytes did you do a scan on the PC at all?

is it a new PC or freshly re installed OS one?

Try opening an admin command prompt and running sfc /scannow, which scans for a replaces corrupted Windows files.

It fixed a problem with me being unable to install a recent update.

The error code searches I have done relate to "third party anti virus" interfering. Yes, I do regular scans etc and nothing has been found .
Regards.

I uninstalled malwarebytes. Other than that, its just windows 8.1 security atm. Windows defender error codes are different each time i try to open it from action centre/turn it on. E.G. one now is 0x8050800d.
When i've searched this, its says something to do with third party AV interfering.
Btw, when I tried to uninstall Malwarebytes through add/remove program it didnt work. Said corrupted files or something. So I just deleted the folder etc if that helps?
Regards.

I was refering to the error code that windows update gives when you try and update.

Any way, I googled that error message above and the suggestion here is to reinstall MSE.

Give that a try.
