right removed my single core 3700+ and installed dual core 4400 cpu, small amount of AS5, freezer pro back on etc, started windows - multicore CPU thinggy found and running fine in windows. a few restarts etc and dual core optimizer install.

All bios settings are at stock levels, all gfx card @ stock etc etc.

Playing BF2, after about 15 mins crash to desktop, fired up bf2 again - same thing after about 10 mins.

Then fired it up again after a couple of restarts and this time in middle of a bf2 game - computer completely shuts down and restarts itself - tried again and after about 5 mins same thing - complete shutdown and restart.

Opened case - check everything, reseated cpu, heatsink etc and then fired up power and now just hangs at the bios/sata disk checking screen (very first screen @ startup).

DFI board beeping and showing 3 red lights which indicates not detecting cpu according to the manual.

Checked fitted properly etc and it is - tried over and over again but nothing, very occasionaly gets pass bootup screen but then gets to windows and crashs out to a restart.

Double and triple check bios everything at stock levels.

Have put old 3700 chip back in and loads into windows fine first time - didn't manage to check if bf2 was ok but played FM2006 for about 45 mins after old cpu back in and everything was fine.

any ideas - cpu sound like the problem to me

had a quick scan over DFI street and seems to be a few things i haven't tried yet. will get round to having a look at these after holidays - will stick to the 3700 for now.
cheers

bios is the latest i can find without moving to a beta version (not really doing that!)

However - after putting the 3700 back in - resetting all the defaults etc - it crashed out of bf2 again after 15 mins.

So i decided to remove any software, drivers, stuff that i could remember installing since the crashing out started.

Also (sounds stupid) but i put the 3700 back to the original settings for my overclock 250 x11 etc (2.75ghz) ram on 166 divider and 2hours of bf2 and it seems fine! bizzarre!!

For luck i bumped the voltage on the ram to 2.8 and that might have been the issue - will run more tests on return from holiday - thanks
