Problems with XP Install

Hi all,

I recently started having problems with my laptop which ended in my having to format it. I have stuck in the XP CD, and formatted the hard-drive, but while setup is loading files, it keeps popping up saying "Setup is missing file: xxx" or something to a similar effect. I'm fairly sure the XP CD is fine as I've used in the past and it was fine. Unfortunately, the errors only occur once I've started installing Windows, so I cant easily test it on another computer.

I have a feeling the problems could be related to the CD Drive. Any ideas? I'm kinda screwed with it now as I've formatted so I can't even attempt to fix windows.

I might try sticking Ubuntu on it later and see if this works.

Thanks,
James

more likely to be a memory problem i would find a copy of memtest and give it a through scan over night, I have had this error many time when bad mem is the cause.

I have had errors like this caused by the RAM. Files are lost or corrupted when copied from the disk to the HDD
