Problems

Yesterday computer powers down like there's a power cut, restarts after about 5 seconds.

Everything powers up, won't display anything.

Im thinking just won't post, so i whip out the battery, reset.. still nothing.

Next i change up the graphics card, an old 6970, then a 5770, still nothing, same problem, everything is powered up and appears to be working.

Motherboard fault? well today i slap in a new asus z97, with a new chip, 400 credits to ocuk..Same thing.

Tried the onboard intel hd through the hdmi.. same.

The only thing i can think of next would be the psu. I really don't know a lot about them, so ill ask the stupid question, even though it seems to be powering everything up, fans/cards/drives, could it be borked, half knackerd and not delivering enough to make it all fire?

Bit miffed, aside from the ram/drives (which would display and post anyway) everything else has been swapped out/working.

have you tried re seating the 4 pin (maybe 6 I cant remember lol) and 24 pin connecters to the motherboard also night be worth re seating the ram as well as ive seen this resolve some strange issues.

at least you have ruled out mobo and gpu, have you tried another monitor? if you have a spare psu or can get a hold of 1 it would be worth a try as well

Pulled all the pins, reseated everything on a new board. Tried over 2 monitors, they both work anyway, as im using one plugged in to my laptop right now.

The only thing i don't have is another psu, why im looking for reason, somebody must have had the same sort of issue. In the last 20 years iv'e never had anything like it, im guessing one of the modules or whatever popped when it powered down yesterday.

Ill pop down the blue and green mixers in the morning and score a psu anyhow, just be nice to have some sort of answer.. im beat with it barr guessing games.

Have you tried your ram sticks individually etc?

Yep, one at a time on the old board, to zero, stayed in the same state. Problem i have is no signal, any card/board/monitor/cable/dvi/hdmi.

Not sure how, but it can only be the psu, one part of it id imagine.

+1. I would also remove all the peripherals(optical drives, hard disks, video cards, etc). As a last resort reseating your CPU might do the trick.

If nothing works then and l was a betting man l would say there are more chances that your motherboard is kaput instead of the PSU.

Heh. ill just grab a psu in the morning, no desire to buy another mobo, having bought one less than 12hrs ago

Sorry, l didn't see that you have already bought a new a new motherboard. Hopefully the new PSU will sort everything out.

All fixed.

The yellow coats had a 850 gold in stock, plugged it all in, bang all was working.

Guess ill never know exactly what was wrong with the old psu, maybe just one of the modules/cables?

Costly upgrade with the 4970/asus, was happy with the 2600k, but hey ho...pretty much anyone would have droped on the mobo fault first:/
