Hello all, i have just bought the Cellshock pc8000 c4 ram from here and im having probs getting it to run at its advertised speed and timings of 1000mhz with 4-4-4-12 timings. If i let it all go auto in the bios it runs it at 800mhz with 5-5-5-18 timings? if i change it to 1000mhz it puts the timings to 5-5-8-22 or something. If i change the settings to unlinked and then type in 1000mhz and set timings to expert and ajust them to 4-4-4-12, well it wont run anything at all it crashes right away. The tightest i have got the timings is by using the nvidia sli setting thing and puting it to expert at 800mhz and it gives timings of 4-4-4-10. Is my memory not working right, should i send it back to ocuk? or is it me who hasnt got a clue as i suspect? :). Oh yea i have only touched the timings and not the advanced timings lower down on the bios page, i just left those at auto, also i have been using 2.2v as advertised on the tin.

I would be extremly greatfull if someone could help me set this up how its supposed to be, i feel like ive wasted my money buying this Cellshock and should have bought dominator ram with epp that sets itself up automaticaly.

Oh yea the motherboard is evga 680i.

Thanks, John

Also cpu-z reports the memory to be PC2-6400(400mhz) on the spd panel??? I have the pc 8000 c4 set this is weird. id post a screen shot but dont know how to post it.

edit: i have also tried 2.3v

Please help :(

dont worry about timings in spd tables
the old batches of pc8000 are just programmed to say 4.4.4.12
but there still micron D9GKX

why dont you try timings 3.3.3.8 @ 2.2 volts @ ddr 800
that way you will rule out if you have been sold lower spec memory.

Atm i cant even get it to run 4-4-4-12 800mhz @ 2.2v :(

The memory sticks do say pc8000 on them and i dont think its lower spec ram but it certinly isnt runing at what its supposed to, im thinking its dodgy ram now, i have tried ev3erything today to get it woking at correct timings and it just crashes strait away on 3dmark06.

Does this sound like dud ram or what?

edit: i also just updated the bios to p21 that was released 22/11 and that doesnt make a blind bit of difference, fastest i can set it at 800mhz is 5-5-5-18, 1000mhz = 5-7-7-28, both at 2.2v. Im stumped, i dont know whats up :/

Ok this is strange, i set it to 3-3-3-8 @ 800 @ 2.2v like you said and its runing ok. I have ran 3dmark several times and its fine, im not getting any better scores but it runs. Hmm now im really stumped, any input on this?

I dont understand why it will run at those timings but not 4-4-4-12 @ 1000 @ 2.2v as advertised, nore 5-5-5-12 @ 1000 @ 2.2v, or even 4-4-4-12 @ 800 @ 2.2v

Is it worth trying the ram in slots 1 and 3 instead of 0 and 2?

Hmm tried them in the other slot and makes no difference 3dmark06 still crashes at the start of the first test when at 4-4-4-12 @ 1000@ 2.2v. Do i maybe need to set the sub timings also as i have been leaving them to auto, infact ive only been changing the top 4 timing settings to 4-4-4-12 and leaving every other setting on auto.

Btw anyone else who has this ram with evga 680i mobo and is it working ok for you and what timings did you change to set it up?

the memory is rated over 1000mhz @ 4.4.4.12 anything under use cas3
mabaye you need increase FSB to CPU to run @ full memory speed

if you wanna run it cas 5 then it would be 1200mhz + @2.2 volts ;)

Well you were right james, it needed the fsb increased. I increased it from 1066 to 1200 but reduced the multiplier from 10 to 9 so the cpu was still runing at 2700mhz and its stable with the memory at 1000mhz @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v, its a qx6700 btw. So thanks for that, now i just need to find out how fast i can get the cpu and memory, just starting this overclocking business so all new to me :) what do you think i should aim to get the cpu/fsb/memory @?

Hi , i have the 1000 C4 stuff aswell and i am getting similar problems at higher Fsb's though and it also show in cpuz as 6400 , going to try again later

so im not the only one...
1000mhz on memory c4, 2.2v i can only get it around 960mhz stable. 1000mhz it crashes 3dmark 06 and it fails mem test and the windows diagnostic memory tester.

Thing is with a single stick it works fine...

Cant try anything at the moment as at work , but before i started pushing up the fsb to the processor i think i got 1000Mhz to the ram at 4-4-4-12 stable and at 2.1 v , but last thing i tried yesterday was to run as 4-4-4-12 at 1000 in unlinked memory speed and it wouldn't boot. but that was with like 1500 x9
If i let mine just to auto detect it comes up all stock at 5-5-5-15

yea im at work atm aswell. Auto detect for me comes up with the same memory timings, sounds like your having the same problems as myself.

Really want to get home to do some testing, ive been using Windows diagnostic memory test, since memtest86 doesnt seem to work properly with the chipset.

Hi, contacted Cellshock and asked them whats the crack! and this is what he said,

"Dear Sir,

for standard SPD we use JEDEC timings with DDR2-800 C5 to avoid boot problems at first boot when the modules are only feed with 1,8Vdimm.

If you have EPP version simply choose one of the profiles added in SPD by activating SLI-Memory feature in bios.

Modules are rated for DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12-2T @ 2,2Vdimm maximal voltage.

If your modules have no EPP included (we updated our programming 2 weeks ago) you can send the modules to us and we can do the SPD reprogramming service for you. Handling will be like a standard RMA with different RMA form.

If you choose to re-programm the SPD please let us know and we will send you further details (RMA request form, RMA number,etc.)."

he is right about the first boot my board defaults to 1.8v in bios and it boots but looks like maximum volts is 2.2 and not 2.3 , Which version i have i dont know either EPP or non EPP, but i guess yours are the same
regards Andy

We have the PC8000 1000mhz, im not sure that the spd settings will affect the overall performance of the ram, the spd default timings are set to c5 cause the motherboard wont boot with them at c4 untill the vram is 2.2v.

In the bios i have SLI ready memory option, which i can set to enable. Guessing since i can enable it i have EPP memory, wonder how i can be sure its EPP ?

Can you give me the support number or mail address you used mate ?

Thanks
Trox

Mine also states it is EPP in the spd, and yea mine is still fine at 1000mhz at 4-4-4-12 with increased fsb, but the thing is i dont want to increase my fsb, im happy runing the processor at stock, atm i dont need it faster. So im runing the memory at 800mhz @ 3-3-3-8 @ 2.2v. Should this ram not run at 1000mhz @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.2v without increasing the fsb or is it normal that it wont run at its advertised speed without some overclocking of the fsb?

Actually i have had 1 slight problem with the fsb increased and the ram at its advertised speeds, when booting up now and then it stalls and i get code 50 on the mobo unsure what it is as there is 2 for the code in the mobo manual, a usb thing "USB Controler" or "NVMM: restore, and exit NVMM" not really sure what either is :s

Edit: oh a fifer, am fae fife anaw

Sounds like Johnd has EPP programmed modules as the guy at Cellshock says that is how you tell by using cpuz or everest apparantly its shows in the spd column , i asked how long to re-program and told him i wasnt over pleased as i only purchased the modules last Friday and this is what he said

"First of all please check if your modules are with or without EPP.
For this either download the programs cpu-z or everest and check info tab of the memory. Here you can see if the modules have EPP in SPD programming.
If EPP is already programmed there´s no need to return the modules.

Re-programming will be done in some seconds so you can expect a fast return to your place."

Anyway they might be with EPP i will look later as Johnd got his from OcUk i think ??

what motherboard are you using Johnd? Where in fife are ya ?

Does your memory only run stable with it has the fsb over 1200mhz ? What motherboard are you using johnd?

Nice to know andyr, ill check cpu-z tonight. Im finding it annoying that my memory wont run as a pair at the stated spec.
