Decided to upgrade from 2 to 4gig and got a good price on some Geil black dragon 4x 1gig at 800mhz,installed the 4 sticks in my asus p5n32-sli but when turned on would not boot!!

Removed one stick so 3gig was installed and booted no probs so checked each stick in all the slots and none was found to b faulty, checked voltage and even upted to 1.30 and got a partial boot but as the splash screen went of it went dead.Nothin on reboot and even went to 1.55 on the voltage on the nb but still nothin???

Also even with 3gig installed over the 2gig before my windows vista score has come down from 5.3 to 4.8 on ram????

Check your BIOS version. It might require an update. Not all motherboards will allow all 4 slots occupied with all type of memory but this is less common now-er-days.

Have you tried increasing the votlage to the memory controller as well as the RAM?

Your VISTA score will probably drop with 3 gig because your memory will drop to single channel (from Duel channel) because group has 1 stick and the other grouping has 2 sticks of ram in it. Duel channel only works when the Ram is the same in each group.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply,i put the mem voltage to 2.0 but comp was unstable so had to drop to 1.80v dont think the bios has been updated since board was bought so might give it a go if i feel brave.

Is this the Geil DDR2 OCUK were selling off via the last newsletter?

I bought two packs (4Gb) to replace the slow 533Mhz RAM I recycled from a Packard Bell but is impossible to use for an overclock.

Arrived this morning, first attempt at install on attempting to POST got horrible series of beeps out the PC speaker.

Reopened the case and found I hadn't quite seated the chips in the slots properly. You need to push down firmly until they click and the little plastic holding tags should self lock. Everything then worked okay, though of course with XP it only shows 3Gb of available RAM (POST confirms 4Gb installed).

I'm running a Gigabyte P965 S3 mobo and didn't have to change any voltages to get a good boot, once I'd correctly physically installed the strips.

No bought of ebay and all is installed right, tested each one and all work fine just cant get the 4gig to run together.

Gona test in my other asus board c what the crack is or try to update bios.
