Probs trying to install ATI Drivers

I am having some right problems with the drivers for my ATI Sapphire Radeon HD5670 Graphics Card. The problem is certain things will not run anymore and cause the driver to stop.

My biggest problem is trying to uninstall the drivers so I can go back to a previous driver as I feel the new ones are the problem I am getting this problem in the first place as my card run perfectly fine till the drivers were updated.

Now every time I try an uninstall the driver if get the BSOD and the only way I can get back into my computer is to shut it down and run windows repair and set it back to a recent restore point. I have been on AMD website to search for an answer as to why this is happening and the only thing they seem to recommend is to uninstall the drivers from the control panel and click change and express uninstall. I have tried this and am getting nowhere and exactly the same thing happens every time.

My OS is Windows 7 64 Bit, and every time I install a new driver it seems as though it is installing and I do not get the BSOD by doing so, only when I try and uninstall or roll back a driver. But each time I install a new driver although it appears as if it is installing ok every time I look at the display drivers in the devise manager it still shows the same driver, and my Graphic Card stops on certain games and when I try and use Total Media Theatre. I also suspect this is the reason why my Blu Ray Drive no longer plays Bly Rays.

The only thing I have not tried whilst trying to uninstall the drivers is unplugging the HDMI Lead I have plugged into which is connected to my TV and was wondering if this would interfere at all.

So if anybody as had previous problems with ATI Drivers I am hoping somebody as the answer to fix this problem, as I cannot really afford to buy another Graphics Card. So any advice and help would be well appreciated thanks...

It very well could be. use the DVI port if you can to unistall / install.

Oh sorry my monitor is connected via the DVI port the HDMI is just in the HDMI Out to my TV for when I watch certain things on the TV now and again. I mainly just use my Monitor as a rule. But I have come across a number of peeps who have this issue with ATI Cards on google.

Have you tried disconnecting the TV or not :) ?

No not yet as I have not read anywhere that it tells you to do this when trying to uninstall the drivers. But I shall give it a go and see if it works. Thanks...

To be sure its cleaned 'em out - Driver sweeper ?

I've used it occasionally without issue , although others have written advising problems.

I would be happy to use again but ...your choice.

If you decide to use just BE CAREFUL what you delete.

Tried unplugging HDMI no difference. I cannot believe how some people recommend doing it in Safe Mode either when you cannot even install or uninstall such a thing in that mode and this is the sort of useless info I am getting from AMD's site regarding my problems.

There does not seem to be anyway of uninstalling the Graphic Drivers at all. So much for ATI these days, or it could be Windows 7 that is the fault here as I never had this problem till I had updates from them, and have had this problem for about 6 months now.

I do not use driver tools and personally do not believe in them. You should not have to have such a thing to be able to uninstall or install a driver. I regard such programs as clutter.

I guess I will have to email AMD and give them some grief cause this is not on at all. It's either windows or their latest drivers that are the fault here, and you can bet your bottom dollar that even if I took the Graphics Card out I still would not be able to uninsrtall the drivers.

Thanks very much I went on the AMD Forum and they also recommended that and it id do the job in Safe Mode. Only trouble was they recommended the latest drivers and they gave me exactly the same problem. So I will follow the same procedure again and get some older drivers and that should do the trick.

I would recommend using DDU - Display Driver Uninstaller.

I have starting using it after it was recommended on these forums, I would also reinstall the latest Motherboard drivers just to be sure.
