process killing software for vista

I've tried Process Killer 2.0 and KillProcess 1.2-something but they don't seem to work, so i'm looking for suggestions on other process-killing software. Source games always hang upon exit with the hl2.exe/l4d.exe process left hanging and unkillable by any means. I'm getting sick of having to reboot after every game - which often takes ~5 minutes because vista has trouble killing the process for shutdown.

Any suggestions?

tried process explorer already and obviously task manager

a wee google search has revealed that i'm not the only person with the problem of the unkillable hl2.exe process

might have to live with it i suppose, at least i haven't got unkillable firefox processes like others have...

steam and all games are set to automatic update so unless i've been singled out for exclusion, i should've been patched.

i doubt i'd get anywhere with steam support, they'd probably tell me to uninstall AVG and ZA (i'd prefer the protection over the ability to exit a game), and update my drivers (which are pretty up to date given my laptop is 6 months old, but i'd rather not do anything within the warranty period).

yes, ive tried all the methods of quitting but i suppose i haven't really counted how many times its been successful using console quitting and alt-f4. currently, clicking quit in the menu means that i exit successfully 1 out of 10 times. The same with clicking the X (since i play in windowed mode).

I'll give console quitting and alt-f4 a shot, if i quit successfully 2 out of 10 times with these methods, i'll be slightly less miffed...
